| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This photo was taken on New Year's Eve 2006 of the coast of Newport, Oregon.
My family and I took a fishing boat out with about 30 other people to go whale watching. We didn't see any whales but we did see 20 foot swells that left you thinking that you did not want to end up in the cold ocean!
In this photo we were going over the bar which is also the time the captain had us move inside the cabin so as to not fall over board. This would also be the reason why it looks like I have water on my lens and scratches on my lens. I took this photo through the windows of the cabin.
I hope you enjoy!
Take care,

Wow! That looks more than a little scary - probably a good thing the captain made everyone go inside!
I like your composition here, especially the top of the wave reaching almost to the top of the frame. You've left just enough to really drive home the notion that these were some pretty big swells. The scene is interesting too in that the sky that is showing looks pretty calm, in contrast to the ocean that looks like it is quite turbulent.
You've done a great job in putting the viewer on the boat with you - I almost feel like I need to steady myself as the boat heaves among the waves. Nice job!

P.S. Did you get seasick?
Impressive! I would probably not appreciate it... I hate things when i'm not in control... I mean not a power trip... But control of the situation :) In contradiction i was diving onto rapid s of a barrage we have near the place i grow... I't appear more crazy, but seeing wave higher then me... I'm not sure :)
And i believe i'm not the only one who would not appreciate...
But to see the water in photo like that... No problems!
I hope your camera survive!
Nice capture of the waves - great composition, point of view and sharpness. I like the way the spray has been captured and the water drops on the lens - it makes you feel like you're right there..
really looks scary to me.. i dont like being on the ocean..
