A picture taken from Dunure Castle near Ayr on the beautifully rugged west coast of Scotland. I have called this picture beehive because it looks like a large beehive. It is in fact a very small Chapel used by the Kennedy family (owners of Drumure Castle) as a place of worship. It was bitterly cold when I took the picture but the light was beautiful.

Hi Peter, A great view and a nice dark coloured sea: one of my favorit subjects.
Regards,
Paul

Nice composition again with good contrast between man made and nature. Good vivid colours. Paul.

Peter, I like very much the northern cold light and colors. Really nice landscape, thanks.

Beautiful light - and a very beautiful scenery at that too, Peter. You know what I like about it, as I always say that. So I'll just omit it here ;o). TFS. I love that big bird in the distance!

Love the colors and your style. It really shines on this one Peter. What an odd looking structure. It looks like some aliens landed

Beautiful time of day with that great lighting you know how to catch. The beehive is such a cool structure and goes so well with this composition. Love seeing the coast of Scotland. Its a wonderful site. Colors are gorgeous and the little bird caught in the photo is a nice little added touch. Great job!

Michael

Another excellent picture of your beautiful country. Gorgeous light and composition. Worth risking frostbites; I know from experience!

Very nice lighting, and those clouds are gorgeous. The choice of a vertical composition works well. The chapel in the foreground gives the scene good depth and balance. Well done.

I like the long low cloud formation which complements the rest of the image - well shot :)

Always nice to see coastlines and this one has a great foreground, Peter, with the small chapel which is nice composed.

bonsoir peter. La composition est belle et je vois ici un très beau paysage. Ces chapelles sont typiques par leur formes, sont-elles construites toutes ainsi ?
Beau travail .

Peter good evening.
The composition is beautiful and I see a very beautiful landscape here. Are these Chapels are typical by their forms, built all thus?
Beautiful work
JP

I know this beehive! I'm sure I've seen it in another of your photos! Only this was taken from another position. Now, which one do I like best...Hummm, I can't decide, I think I like them both the same. It's a fantastic landscape and your photos make it even more so.
Well done.
Ana

Glad to see this beautifull chapell.
Exxcellent POV for a well built image.
I like it very much.
Thanks for this travel to Ayr.

Very nice picture Peter, I like it. Picture with the ocean, it is always nice.
Best regards

What can one say? With such a beautiful view, I think it's possible to accept the cold. This one's beautifully composed with the chapel in front, but off to the side, and so much sea and land sky behind it. And those clouds low on the horizon give great depth.

Sure is a beautiful peaceful place, I envy your ability to have such wonderful scenery to photograph. I have lived on the Isle of Wight for over 2yrs now and as yet have not attempted any landscape images. Well done and keep up the good work.

Nice shot Peter. The bee hive is tall enough to lend way for you dividing the horizon in the middle. Regards, Brent

Hi Peter,
So, this is the other angle of the beehive. It's nice. It's a lovely view. The beach is wonderful and the rocks on it really add interest.

But, I think the composition needs a little work, in my opinion. ;) The beehive is sitting to far on the right side corner. It really anchors the eye and doesn't allow for movement because it's such a strong and heavy element. As for the sky area. I think you have too much. (I'm not talking about it because of the middle horizon effect). That one lonely, fluffy, cloud in the corner looks a little too lonely and out of place. I think it would have been better if you were just under it. You could still have a bit of blue over the main cloud area. Still it's a nice shot. The earthy colors are very nice. The deep blue of the ocean and the white waves are a very nice contrast just as the sky is to the bits of whites in the clouds. The beach is one of my favorite places to be. Thanks for the view.

What a beautiful and rugged coast line! such a strange ancient looking chapel!

An excellent shot, the composition is superb. I love the sea to the left with the gulls gliding in the air.
A beautiful landscape shot.

Again a great landscape with a simple composition and a good DoF.

Beautiful vista, great colors and POV, tfs,

Hi Peter,
You are right to call in beehive because the building is in fact a beehive doocot or dovecote. Landowners sited doocots away from their living quarters because of the smell. Pigeons were kept to sustain the landowners through the winter months. The lines running around teh doocot are rat courses, that stiopped vermin getting up to the nests. The beehive doocots are the oldest type and this one is probably from the 15 or 16th century.

I have been trying to photograph all the doocots in East Lothian!

I like the picture (good subject matter obviously!) although I would have not had the doocot so far to the LHS.
