See-Through Reflections
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I have the good fortune to work in Duncan Hall, an amazing building on the Rice University campus, in Houston, Texas. I will probably post a number of pictures related to the building eventually, because its various nooks and crannies never cease to fascinate me -- but I'll start with this one that doesn't show the building in a very straightforward way.
This was a bit of an experiment. At first, it might look like a double exposure (can you even do that with a digital camera?), but it's not.
This was shot through the glass window of a conference room on the third floor of the building. Through the window, you can see an open staircase leading downward, part of the second floor mezzanine, and some of the tall Egyptian-style pillars that run throughout the building. Reflected in the window, you can see the room I'm standing in, tables and chairs, a door leading to a patio, and trees and sky in the distance. But how much is inside and what's outside?
Very little post-processing was done. I adjusted the levels a little, sharpened the image, then reduced the size before uploading it.
Here's some more about the building at some Rice websites.

Those reflections makes it a very interesting image. Think also the overal sharpness works very well on this subject. Well spotted. Good white balance.
Hi Michael,
This is a surprising image, I realy love it. Seems like a digital work, but it isn't at all! The colours are in perfect harmony...

Marvelous deconstruction! With so many details to look at. I also like the well balanced colors. Well done!
