This shot is a bit of an experiment for me, so please feel free to give me your honest evaluations!

First, a bit of local history:
Mulhouse, mentioned for the first time into 803, was built on land that was frequently flooded, a challenge that resulted in the installation of water-pumping mills. Those same mills gave it its original German name, “Mülhausen,” and enabled it to launch itself into the local economy. The eight-paddled wheel that symbolizes the city and has appeared on its flag and its coats of arms since 1267 commemorates those early beginnings.

Today Mulhouse is a busy industrial town, but I was astonished at how fresh and sweet the water tasted. The public fountain in the town square has four amusing spouts from which runs a steady stream of fresh potable water. And humans are not the only beneficiaries of this sparkling drinking water. The pigeons that live in the eaves around the square happily refresh themselves here. I watched with great amusement as one took a bath and another had a drink.

Tech: shot as jpeg, cropped to eliminate part of the background, desaturated the remainder of the BG to keep the focus on the bird, resized and sharpened for TL

The full-colour original has been placed in the WS for the sake of comparison.

Thanks for your visits and your critiques and have a wonderful day.

Hi Silke,
a brilliant shot.
The pigeon almost looks like part of the fountain...it's colouring is similar.
Well done,
Joe

Hi Silke
From the TN it just look like a fountain.. that bird is the exact color! Funny to see them using the fountain... Wonderful details on the bird and fountain... and great pp work to make the subject stand out!

que c'est bien joué ! magnifique capture silke

Hi Silke
The work you spent on the shot has paid of, nicely done,
It's a good thing that's not wine in the fountain; it would have fallen of its perch.

Beautiful capture. Excellent sharpness and details.
Great PP work on the BG. It really brings out the pigeon.

Hola Silke.
La verdad es que aislada en el color la paloma luce de una manera encantadora sobre el bg en b/w.
Un cordial saludo, JL.

Yes it's a good idea to eliminate colors around. I find it excellent. First time i see a pigeon drink directly to a fountain! apparently he reflect a part of the colors of the fountain. It give a special harmony and i like that aspect too :)

Hello Silke,

Very nice catch, good POV and details. TFS

Excellent work, Silke.
Result looks superb well done on this.

Hi Silke, lovely photo with drinking pingeon, great composition, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Silke,
Great shot! Unusual but very effective pov!
Nice detail and colours! Is that the colour from the copper spout or the reflection of the bird in the running wateer?
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Good catch!! It's hard with the busy BG but oyu cropped it well, and the bird shows up well. As long as it isn't the drinking tap for humans!! Feral rat is another name for these birds!!
Cheers

Wow Silke.. this really looks cool! it's almost as if the pigeon is part of the tap here. The appear to have just about the same color!

Very nice image, clear and sharp, great colors and perfect DOF!

Well Silke, I never really saw a pigeon do it this way. Funny how such a commonly sighted bird sometimes gives us a great shot. This shot is quite nicely composed with a blurred background that makes this guy stand out. Colors and sharpness of subject are perfect.

Hello Silke!

Cool and refreshing idea. I would only suggest to desaturate everything except the pigeon. IMHO , it would be better to reveal the pigeon, instead of looking at the pigeon and pipe as a whole.

Keep on experimenting.

Cheers!
Robert

Ok, because it's an experiment,
I can be honest ... LOL
Beautiful Silke !
Compo, colours, sharp and BG in B/W.
I like this one better than the one in the WS
"Keep cooking !"

Precious detail! The thumbnail looked (at least for a moment) as if the pigeon was part of the design! Nice capture!
Cheers

Hi Silke,
It is perfect this way. The BG colours were indeed much to distracting, so this was the best option. And it is much too nice a picture to disregard, so I can only say: good decision - lovely picture.
