Hi Neroli,
I like this! I like the rocks jutting up out of the water and mist, and the rocks on the left balance the composition nicely. I like the misty effect and the lovely soft colours too! Well done and TFS and welcome to Treklens as well!
Cheers Tina :-)

Wow - welcome to TrekLens Neroli! What a beautiful first post, stunning and rugged scenery, well metered and with a beautiful soft effect from the slow shutter speed.

Always be careful with water shots that the horizon is level - here it's very slightly skewed to the left, half a degree's rotation clockwise would easily fix it though.

Thanks for sharing - and welcome again!

Neroli,
Welcome to Trek Lens.
What a beautiful first photo. I hope you don't mind but I thought this awesome picture could use a little saturation and contrast boost so I did a workshop. I explained in further detail how I did it on the Workshop Page. I hope you enjoy Trek Lens and I am sure with postings like this, you'll become a nice addition to Trek Lens!
Well done,
Scott

Hi Neroli
Welcome to TL. Wonderful scene for along our coastline with heaps of interest. The slow shutter has worked well.
I put your image in photoshop to check your levels and curves, just slightly out. I have done a workshop for you as to what photoshop gave me. Hope you agree.
Keep em coming

Kathleen

First off welcome to TL and may your stay be a long one. The friend that was helping did a fantastic job with this capture. As you venture out to photograph remember your grandfater's words and the advise of the friend who helped you with this picture.
Regards
Dan

This is a beautiful place, very interesting. But I am impressed with the workshops Scott and Kathleen did. Big difference when comparing. Anyway, I wish any of my photos (after several months of trying) was as pretty as this first one of yours. I will be waiting for more of your photos.

Kia ora Neroli, and welcome to TL.
What a great first posting from you - lovely to see the West Coast's rugged rocks and cliffs.
I see others have done you workshops - they look good too. To do a workshop doesn't mean they don't like your photos - sometimes they do one to show you how to correct the horizon - very important in New Zealand, as most of us live close to the sea.
I agree with your grandfather's words too,
Thank you for sharing (TFS)
Janice

Hi Neroli,
A great first photo - an interesting subject and well executed. Learning to use your camera properly is a lot of fun (I am just beginning too) but learning how to use the software takes longer.
Look forward to more great photos
Thanks
Jack

Hi Neroli
Welcome to Treklens, great first post. I love this part of the country especially Punakaiki. I've just bourght a Canon 400D and boy what a learning curve.
Looking forward to more beautiful pic's of the coast.
Cheers Peter

Hi Neroli,
Welcome to TrekLens.
It is certainly a great image. I think Kathleen's WS is about spot on.
I can see by the water that you used a slow shutter speed.
Can you post the data? Other people can also learn from it.
It's a wonderful first post, please keep them coming.
Peter.

Hello Neroli, Welcome along to Treklens, Just been reading your intro..gee you do live in an isolated area dont you.. and with all the beautiful scenry around you, we will be seeing some great photos im sure.

Great first shot here, more saturation and contrast is needed, and as others have said, just watch the horizon.

Good composition.
Look forward to your next shots.

Kind regards
Dawn.

WEll Neroli... I think your friend certainly knows his way around!
You have made an excellent shot here.
I think you have used a longer exposure time here to get the "misty" effect on the water.
It's nicely done.
For a moment I thought this would look nice a bit darker. Experimented a bit, but I came to the conclusion that this is the best version!

Cheers pal!
