Heading towards Cusco...

After we were forced to stay one more night in (really boring) Puno due to a strike and general blockade of streets we finally took the so called 'Inka Express'. This tour goes from Puno to Cusco in about 9h with many stops for sightseeing and, well, let's say other touristic things :)

Another stop was somewhere north of Sicuani where we had a beautiful view to one of the highest mountains in Peru. You can see the Ausangate (6384m).
If you take a closer look you can also see the railway leading from Puno to Cusco.

I like the desert-like ambiente in combination with the blue sky and those fluffy clouds hanging around.

PP talk

after cropping some parts away I rearranged the levels, first. Secondly, I added another layer and transformed that one with a filter called b/w infrared into a B/W picture with some color left. I put this one beneath the original and erased a frame from the original so the IR-layer peeps through.
Next I added a cold/warm filter to put some strength into the blue sky and the brown earth.
Finally I reduced the opacity from the top layer (original) to 60% so the IR-layer shines through.
Last some Gaussian Blur for the frame (15pts) and size reduction.

Hi Gunnar,

Excellent landscape shot you have here, I like the dramatic clourds formation, sharp details and lighting :D Well captured,

Thanks for sharing

Cheers,

Gorgeous panorama shot Gunnar, I just love how intense and deep the contrasts, colors, and tones are here. That, along with the slightly lower point of view (at-level with the dried grass at the right) makes this so dramatic. It really shows the open space and the verging of all the natural elements in the shot (the clouds, the mountains, the dry earth and grass). Excellent contrast between the blue sky and the rich yellow and tan-colored earth. The clouds came out with brilliant contrasts and look so dynamic. I also love the play of the clouds' shadows on the mountains and ground that balance with the contrasts in the sky. Good composition and balance with the horizontal cropping and good to have the mountain peak in the background more off-center. I might recommend decentering it even a little more, but just my two cents. Amazing focus and detail, and I actually like the desaturated and blurred frame used to contrast with the sharp detail in the photo itself. TFS!

Hi Gunnar,
Your heavy pp work is appropriate for the power of this wild landscape. Great perspective and contrast. I like this visual impact! Bravo! Annie

Very nice, drammatic composition. I like the use of the contrast between warm ground colours and cold blues of the sky with scary clouds formations. Good use of rightmost, fg grass giving good anchoring point for the photo and giving sense of depth of the scene. Excellent placement of the road making it good guide across the photo. All this makes watching this work easy and pleasant. tfs
