[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Still obsessed with the moon, I was up early capturing this image of the last quarter in the eastern sky the morning of September 8. I used a tripod and the auto-timer, so as not to get the shake from pressing the shutter. I liked how the sun was beginning to highlight the treeline.

The picture title is taken from a children's Mother Goose nursery rhyme:

Hey Diddle Diddle

Hey diddle, diddle,
The cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon.

The little dog laughed
To see such a sight
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Of all the things I wish I could recall, this rhyme memorized in childhood pops into my mind unbidden. Wikipedia says that one theory for the origen of this poem is that it is a satire of a scandal during the time of Queen Elizabeth I.

Does anyone know which star this is--is it Venus?

PP work--just framing, resizing and sharpening. Thanks for viewing!

Wonderful capture. Good sharpness and details.
Lovely sky degrading colors.
And is that Venus we see in the center?

Hola Karen,
Hermosa exposición,
bellas siluetas y tonos.
saludos

Beautiful scene, Karen. I really like the gentle gradation of slight pink to blue to black with the silhouetted trees as a nice frame. It's such a simple composition, but very pleasing to the eye.

And yes, that is Venus, often referred to as the morning star (or evening star) because of its closeness to the Earth and its highly reflective sulfuric acid clouds. In fact, Venus itself has phases just like the moon.

Nice job.

P.S. I have a moon photo I'm particularly proud of.

Hello Karen
Beautiful image of the rising Moon and Venus. Nice colours of the dawn.

Had to check the image with that title, Karen. I like the mood, the moon, the soft dusk colors, the curving treetops. Simple, but well executed. Nice!

Very nice. Great exposure on the sky to keep colors but not allow moon to bleed out. Very good composition and framing.

A lovely capture Karen. Well composed with the partial framing by the trees and good colour and detail. TFS,
