[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is vertical archery. The little cibles are on the top, and the object is to knock them off. You can see from the second tower in the distance how tall they are. Not an easy bow-pull. In case of errant arrows, the observers are standing under shelters with mesh tops so they can see but not be injured. The arrows have blunt ends, but they still stick up in the ground when they arrive back at earth.

There were a more than a dozen men contestants and one woman. Of course, you can guess who won. :-)

The media was there that day covering the event, so I ended up on the front page of the newspaper. :-)

This is Freddy shooting. If you look below his bow, you can see the old windmill in the distance.

A great area, and with a nice blue sky that day. Hope you enjoy,
Reid

Hiya Reid

This is an excellent all round posting. Nice clear image and as you rightly say a full view of the second tower in the distance gives us a really clear picture of what is happening here. Your notes are also excellent with good description.

TFS my friend and have an excellent weekend.

regards Helen

Excellent capture. Good sharpness and details.
Never seen such a shootout :-).
I have practiced that sport for a long time, (a long time ago :-]) but never in this position.
I agree it must pull different muscles :-).
TFS

Dear Reid,
he looks like aiming the sun or the star in the sky. and this tower also looks like the rocket or the big arrow...
amazing and joyful sports this "vertical archery" is!
anyway the sky is beautifully clear and impressive blue.
thank you,
Akihisa

Haha, we used to do that without targets to shoot at when we were kids. The object in that game was who could stand there the longest without running away......
Cheers
Otto

Gee! It's curious! But practicing the hunt that way for real... If it was me... I would need a stainless steel umbrella... Just in case :)
It's instructive about the technique
