[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Rummaging through shots taken over the past month, I came across this one that I took at roughly the same time as my previously posted “Waterfront Apartment” and from about the same position… just looking the other way!

It is, of course, the QE2 at Liverpool on her 40th birthday. For more comprehensive notes on her, see my earlier posting from 22nd September.

The shot is taken at dusk and I liked the light, which gave interesting colours on the section of old pier and in the clouds.

Certainly the foreground here is in stark contrast to everything else nearby, almost all of which is brand new buildings around the Princes Dock.

To every side of me here were shiny new buildings, and this little piece of derelict quayside stands right in the middle. My idea was to create a stark contrast between this and the ship which, although she is heading for retirement, has been maintained in pristine condition.

Hope you like it!

Hi Nigel,
I like this. The big clean luxury liner in the background contrasts well with the derelict dock area in the foreground. Good composition and colours.
Cheers, John.

Hello Nigel ,

The FG is not very attractive here, but the ambient light does help making it look better with the sunset light. The reflections from the downtown buildings are creating almost a disco ball effect on ship's side (^_^). I like the warm tones, and shape of the ship from this angle.

Well done.
Robert
