[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken at Kelmarsh in Northamptonshire at an English Heritage weekend that showed English history through the ages, this is a Saxon encampment with all the people dressed in the clothes of the time and cooking, as they would have done then.

The most difficult thing with these shots is to try and capture them with none of today’s trappings i.e. Mobile phones and cars etc. I arrived as soon as the gates opened and before the thronging masses arrived.

ISO 100 .. –0.5 EV .. At 31mm

Hello, Michael.

A very nice picture indeed. You did very well to keep out cars and mobile 'phones and suchlike - I seem to remember that miles of Ben Hur footage had to be retaken because someone was wearing a wrist-watch in one of the scenes!

I've been looking at some of your similar pictures on TE - I hope to see more steam trains on this site from you!

Kind Regards,

John.

Hi Michael,
Your picture is an observational one: no specific subject in the centre. That were my thoughts when i watched it a long time. Is that a weakness or a strenght? I don't know. Later om i decided that the people on the right are the centre of your picture. In that case, the image is too big.
Technically the picture is very okay.
Conclusive: i think you want to show two important things: the people and the terrain with tents. I think it would be better to have concentrate on the first object, it's interesting enough by posture, clothing, etc.
Greets,
Ruut

Hi Michael..very nice...looks like an oil painting...well composed, beautiful colors.

Roger

An odd comment there about the subject not being central!! IMO they really couldn't be anywhere else as you wanted to show the encampment and you certainly don't want a large empty space behind the subjects so maybe a closer crop to the right. Otherwise an excellent image even if you did take the easy way out and photograph with the sun behind you while stalwarts like me were working into the sun. LOL.

Hi Michael,
First off, Welcome to Treklens! Great shot for your first post. I really like this, terrific Point Of View and beautiful color. I wonder how it would look in sepia...hmmm lets see..I hope you don't mind ..going to try a workshop on this one...thanks for sharing your photo and hope you enjoy this site. I know I do!
