This is an old picture taken in Cua Dai, Hoi An that bears some of my events:
- My first visit to Cua Dai Beach, due to the lack of security and safety while traveling the 4-km road from Hoi An containing mines, grenades, booby traps and it was a perfect location for military ambush.
- By that time in Danang, there wasn't a driving school. Having a part-time job in a repair shop, I was able to learn by helping the mechanicians to move the vehicles in and out. Going to Cua Dai, I was allowed to handle this Jeep pick-up truck as my first drive.
- This is a picnic trip we had before I joinned the military service a few months later. The picture has been shot with Kodacolor film to be developed and printed by Kodak Labs in Palo Alto, California 94304. So, this picture was in the last roll I was able to send via APO mail system for such service.
Please refer to this picture for an update on Cua Dai today. |

Hello Thanh,
I am in awe of the story of this photo...of the arc it takes us from 1970 and the horrors you describe there (and in the links) to the picnic tables and chairs of today in the contemporary photo. Thanks so much for sharing these.
I also like that you give a context for you photos...giving deeper meaning.
