PHORMIUM TENAX - NEW ZEALAND FLAX OR HARAKEKE

I have over saturated the photo, but I quite like the result. I hope you do too.

I have been intriged with the colours of the older flax leaves as they start to die. Their colour changes from the green, sometimes even a silvery greeny blue colour, to yellow and brown. This image shows a variety of leaves showing the different tones of green and even a bluish tinge. The photo has made the blue stand out more than it usually noticed growing live.

Flax is a common plant of the coast and roadside. The toughness of this plant is evidenced by the variety of its habitats, from beaches, river mouths, coastal cliffs with salt sea spray, to alpine lakes. It has long strap-like leaves that can grow up to 3m tall and flowering panicles that can be considerably taller. The leaves range in colour from green to bronze. The orange-red flowers are pollinated by birds - both native and introduced nectar feeders. The attractive seedpods that develop are held erect.

All flax are extremely tough and useful in adverse situations, including seashore plantings, wet or dry soils and hot windy situations. They seem indifferent to clay or sandy soils and grow well on the islands of the Hauraki Gulf.

I love the colours and detail in this, and the patterns in your photo. One leaf crossing over another reminds me of flax weaving. I've never noticed blue in flax before...

a crisp shot with brilliant color - i especially love the two leaves crossing over each other in the center!

Lovely composition, vivid colors and good lighting. Well done!

Very nice composition and good match of colours. Excellent!

Hi Janice...Composition with green and yellow tones are great...I like the soft twist at the center...Thank you for sharing...

This is really nice Janice. Wonderfull vibrant colours and a nice control of the "chaos" of lies going up and down and diagonal. Really very nice.

Very interesting note Janice... I like the way you over saturated your photography, it's ok for that kind of picture. I also appreciate the sharpness and the very good details on this one.

J'aime particulièrement les photos contrastées et très colorées comme celle que vous nous présentez actuellement. C'est vraiment une photo très riche en détails et couleurs. Note très intéressante et instructive.

The border adds so nicely to the composition of the photo Janice. You do an excellent job with all your pictures. Keep up the good work and God's best always...

Very good composition Janice. I like the colors. Excellent idea to have over saturated the photo. I like it. Very well done.

I am a fan of highly saturated shots when appropriate and this is certainly most appropriate. Excellent and interesting note. The leaves remind me of a Yucca plant.

Very sharp detail and excellent color. I do like the over saturation on this shot. I really enjoy the grain in the green vertical leaf. TFS
