The giant panda is an endangered species, the Chinese call the panda, da xiongmao - the big bear-cat. The panda's digestive tract and carnivore's teeth are poorly adapted to their largely vegetarian diet. Half of Sichuan's panda habitat was lost to logging in 1974-1989. The panda's main diet is bamboo.
In response to the plight of the panda the Chinese government set up a panda study programme in Wolong in association with the World Wide Fund for Nature, accompanied by a successful breeding programme. They also arrest (and sometimes executed) people who harm panda's.
Seeing the panda's was one of the highlights of my visit to China. |

Hello Jean,
The panda is nicely balanced in the composition by the bamboo branch he's holding. The scattered green leaves across his chest, although messy, give a bit of contrast against a black and white subject.
You've done well to capture him with his tongue out.
A very good photograph.
I'm always interested to see what you can achieve with a camera similar to mine.
Regards,
Peter.
Belle image de parc zoologique. bien capté , Image nette et précise,

Hi Jean,
This is a great shot and a funny one, it makes me smile :-)
I like the composition, good colours and this pose looks just great. I wanna look at this more often, so it's going to my favorites.
TFS and have a good weekend!
