Hello everyone,
this is a shot, taken early in the summer, of the Georgian circular banqueting house on the top of the Kymin near Monmouth. The house was built at a cost of 80 guineas (that's £84 in today's money, I think) in 1794 to protect "the Gentlemen of Monmouth" from the vagaries of the weather during their regular Tuesday afternoon outdoor luncheon parties at this spot. It's possible to see ten counties from the windows of this building, and a party could take lunch in the banqueting room for one shilling and sixpence.
Near here is the Naval Temple (described as the "Navel Temple" on monmouth.org.uk, from where this information is cribbed), built in 1801 to honour several British admirals, including Lord Nelson. He visited the monument in 1802, arriving from Ross on Wye on a Trow (a local sailing boat used for trade on the River Wye).
The Kymin and the Naval Temple were donated to the National Trust by the people of Monmouth in 1902. See my picture "Kymin Bench" for an idea of the view from here.
No PP work, this is exactly as it was taken.
Cheers all, John.

Hello, neighbour of the day,

very strange building... At first sight, I would think it is a little light-house at the sea... I like the late sun colors on it.

regards,

Luc.

Hi John! What a lovely scenery with dramatic lighting. The timing of the shot is perfect. Very good colors and details. Saturation and exposure is well managed. I like how you framed your picture with the tree as a natural border.
TFS,
Freddie :)

Hi John, lovely photo and an interesting note. I looked again at your "Kymin Bench" photo and have added it to the theme "Benches" as I think it is a great photo.
Cheers,
Dad
