This has great potential, Adriaan. The first thing I would suggest is that you make it bigger. this is about half the size it needs to be on this site. I would suggest that you repost it using "manage" and "My photos" and then select "repost"
A larger image would get a fairer response.
I would also suggest that you level the horizon -- the tilt is as distracting to us as the noise was to him :)

You might get some real benefit from more experienced portrait photographers if you click on the word "people" which is directly below you name below the photograph here. Take a look at how the better portrait photographers compose their shots. The best ones are usually those with the largest number beside the title of the photo -- look for images of 50 points and more.
