Another photo taken one hour west of Calgary just as you enter the Rocky Mountains.

Our winter days are short here and the sun angle is low. This is a blessing and a curse because of the shadows and warm glows created.

Mount Yamnuska is an example of a Front Ranges mountain that consists of older (Paleozoic) formations thrust tens of kilometres from the west to lie on top of younger (Mesozoic) rock. This relationship was created by the McConnell Thrust Fault, which can be seen today where the Paleozoic limestone cliff meets the snowline and turns into Mesozoic mudstone and sandstone. This major fault contact is so sharp that you can cover it with your finger.

Lats and Longs have been entered for you to see where this feature is located.

Today Mount Yamnuska is a popular rock-climbing destination, attracting everyone from beginners to the world's best.

Hi Karin,
I love a strong winter has it happened in Portugal when I was a kid: «cold, very cold; dry; and an enormous blue sky».
This photo makes me remember how great it was.
Thank you.

Hi Karin !
very good focus here. Excellent sharpness and colour.
Well done. Best regards, Daniel

Wonderful colors and setting...just a really beautiful photograph. I love the lower angle of the sun at this time of year...it seems to make the colors so much richer and deeper. Very nicely done.
