I took this photo a couple of years ago during one of the foggiest day I can recall. It was when I first acquired my camera and I was intent on trying it out on new things. This is the very first train shot I ever took and for some reason, I loved it. There was something about the moodiness of the fog, how deceptive it could be, yet aluring at the same time.

The fog was so thick I couldn't see across the street (and getting to the spot to take this photo required crossing a very busy street!) and believe it or not, it was late morning.

I took the photo from several angles, but this one is my favorite. Until this photo, I never cared about trains, they were just something I heard every single day, part of the background noise I'd become used to. Now I see them differently and somehow along the way I learned I love taking photos of them. I don't do it often, but when I do, I aim for something new - I mean something new for me. I'm sure this photo has been done many times before, but it opened my eyes to the ordinary things around that could become extraordinary.

With my mom so ill, I just haven't been able to be a participant like I'd like, but I certainly appreciate the warm notes and the welcome I have received here. Thanks so much.

I used my canon rebel xt for this shot, my 300mm lens.

This is a great shot. I enjoy trains also and I like how this one looks so intimidating coming straight ahead. The fog and the dark windows add to the mystic of the train.
