Happy Holidays TrekLens:
Well, I stumbled on this Cobra and I knew I just wanted a slightly different capture of Cobra. [For I already have some posts in the past. ] Some times It is hard to capture a moving Cobra because of the slight vibration that they project. This one actually striked at me once (on my camera) but I was not close enough to its range. If you notice, the Cobras don’t have any hearing (no ears) but is extremely sensitive to vibrations. (Please see color corrected version in WS)
Since I was under shade and there was little light coming from one side, I had my ISO set to 400. With F/8.00, (since the background was not busy, I kept a medium range of shutter speed of 1/80Sec. Anything under 1/60 may have been a bit shaky.
My best wishes for a wonderful day.
David

• XR Design
Features XR (extra refractive index) glass and efficient use of aspherical lenses.
• Zoom Range
A 7x magnification power is now available when used with digital SLR cameras. The focal length of when used on digital SLRs is equivalent to approx. 45-320mm in 35mm format (depending on camera brand).

The cobra is attractive - I like the look of them with the wide collar / cape around their necks.
Great capture David, very sharp and focused.
If he had struck you and not the camera - what would have happened - these are poisonous, aren't they?
Thank God, you are still here:)
Janice

Hi David. Good to meet you again. I think you chose the perfect aperture for this shot which renders the whole depth of the subject sharply in natural soft light.
A happy 2008 to you my friend.
Vic.

Great work, David! I think many photographers dare not stand close to a cobra for a take, and it is true that it moves so fast when it does that. I like this sharpness and sideway looking eye. We normally see frontal view, but this sideview is so different.

Excellent note for a tip. Info on lens also useful. TFS, bill

Hi dear friend,
this posture looks great.
I like very much this snake due to his ability of defending himself with the help of the lateral sides of his head and neck area - this way he is able to increase his surface and look bigger. A beautiful snake so well presented by you. The posture you have chosen is the best one. TFS
Best wishes and happy shooting ;)

I only capture harmless creatures, this seems quite a different job - imagine, you just stumbled upon a cobra - brrrrr.

Hello David,
An impressive subject has been captured!
Many will associate this image with India, but this kind of photography is for sure nothing I will ever try...
I'm impressed you can do this without handshake, hehehe!
A typical pose is well captured, great details in the snake!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Superb shot, David
Thanks so much.
