[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot was taken just a few months ago, in Durham, North Carolina on the grounds of what used to be the American Tobacco Company. The factory closed many years ago, but part of the grounds still remain as they were long ago. This area at one time was the "Home of the 15 Cent Lunch" .

The company closed this factory back in the '80s, but in 2004, the abandoned American Tobacco campus was reopened as a complex of offices, shops, and restaurants. The night I was here there was a free concert going on. I was walking around the grounds doing hand held shots when deep in the back of the complex, I came across this relic partially buried under new cement.

I converted this to B/W and adjusted color balance to give the Sepia Effect, I left the grainy effect from the original caused by the high ISO. And framed for Widescreen. I also tried all kinds of crops on this but could not find one i liked better than this one. Thanks for looking!

The original color version is in the Workshop. I was torn between the two :)

Light is very interesting... Like a model or something. It comes so near of the ground and is so powerful. fine nyans and an excellent picture.

Hi Vincent

An eye catching shot here, I cant explain exactly why though, i think its the lines and the light that do it. It reminds me of an old movie scene.

TFS regards Helen

Hello Vincent,
Interesting flashback, an image telling a story about times long gone...
Black and white works well here, so does the contrasty hard sharpness...
Well framed, good details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Vincent

It looks like a town that has seen better, & more prosperous, days, judging from the peeling paint. There are many small towns like this, in rural Australia, too. Perfect sharpness & tonal range, with good lighting. Tfs!

I prefer the color version to this one I believe. I like the warm, muted tones of it. It felt more nostalgic in color, ironically. Thanks for posting them both!

I just LOVE old places like this! I can FEEL the ghosts here, the stories that must have been! Really excellent sepia shot Vincent, almost scary!!

Hello Vincent,
Beautiful lines of the beautiful B&W picture.I like the light and presentation, very good note.
Well done.
Janusz

The composition and the subject are well-selected, sepia tones, too.
As remind me an industrial architecture that I saw in old american movies (those I liked very much :) )

Overwhelming mood, Vincent!
Looking at this photo gives you the feeling of being there.
Excellent black & white conversion: B&W makes the derelict aspect of the buildings really pop out (by simplifying things). At the same time, you "saved" the luminosity of the colour version.
Excellent job!
Erik

Hi Vincent,
Very nice old place.Great light and shadows.Well compo.TFS.

Many thanks for your kind words on Dew in the morning .

I love your picture. The black and white works really well.
Home of the 15cent lunch... Wow! How the times do change.
Very nice.

Hi Vincent,

Hi dear friend,
great finding! Looks so old and with a great untold story.
I find your PP work as an excellent one.
Indeed, the original tones seemed a little too yellowish.
The sepia tones are looking great for this old view.
The frame looks perfect on it.
A styled presentation. TFS
Best wishes,
Ioana

This is simply fabulous, Vincent -- I love the colours, textures and mood -- a gritty portrait of a once-proud factory

I like both versions Vincent, but I think I like the sepia just a little more. It matches the conditions of the building and makes the abandonment more pronounced. Super capture with great details and notes. Well done.
