De la famille des Amaryllidacées et originaire d'Europe centrale, d'Afrique du nord et d'Asie, le narcisse puise sa légende dans la mythologie grecque. Narcisse était un très beau jeune homme qui rejeta avec mépris l'amour de la nymphe Echo. Pour le punir, les dieux décidèrent qu'il n'aimerait plus que sa propre image. En se penchant au-dessus d'une fontaine pour boire, Narcisse vit son reflet dans l'eau. Perdu dans la contemplation de son image, il se noya et fut transformé en fleur...
