What an interesting bird, flip. I love the florescent colour, in its back, that you have captured so beautifully. Your whites are perfect. Poor fellow has not the most attractive beak, but none the less I think he is a very handsome bird. Super job of detail and composition.

Hallo Flip.
For sure, this is the famous 'Weird Duck'. haha
Prachtige foto, van dit 'unknown creature'. Good shot from that distance, Flip.
Best regards from Jan

Hey Flip,
Yep- it is a weird duck. Very interesting and colorful capture though! I did a search on google- this is a "knobbilled or knob billed duck."
There are a few different species of them- I won't get that specific.
But nice capture!
Great details and POV.
I will do a small workshop.
TFS!

Hi Flip

Very nice clear photo of this interesting duck. NIce colours and relection. I think the very slight tilt can be easily corrected.

Here is a little more information about this bird:

Hierdie is 'n Kobbeleend (Sarkidiornis melanotos) Engelse naam: "Knobbilled duck". The male has the knobble on the nose and it enlarges during the mating season. The female is without this and slightly smaller than the male. They make nests in hollowed out trees and are summer visitors in our country and more often seen in the northern regions - all this according to "Sasol voëls van Suider Afrika"

Hi Flip

This is truly weird to my eyes... but the uniqueness make it beautiful
