"Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness"

Hello Friends

This image is a great lesson of life and inspiration for me... why?

On 13th Jan 2008, when everyone was busy in celebrating Festival of Lohri in North India, when people light up big and small bonfires in front of their houses and throw various edibles and munchies like popcorn or puffed rice into it, shouting chants like 'Aadar aye dilather jaye', which means may honour come and poverty vanish, meeting their friends and relatives, wishing each other consuming peanuts and popcorn etc. to give warmth and high energy to the body.) I was also enjoying... and clicking photographs...

I saw a young dhobi (laundry man) ironing cloths in a corner of vacant plot under very dim light of this "Lantern" with his Heavy Coal Iron. His father was dancing with us... We invited him to join us and share edibles. He came only for few minutes and went back to his work.

I was astonished to see his concentration and hard work. We always complain of low lighting or electricity failure or so on... but he was working without electricity ... and no complaints...

It is a great inspiration for me...

I shot his workplace...
u might see clothes around his Lantern in the image...

That is why i used above proverb "Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness"

I hope u will like it!!

Hello Jagroop,
I do believe the man that irons clothes has taught us all a lesson in perserverance, to work and earn a living regardless of circumstances that would halter most of today's society from success.
Great illumination on the lantern, and in the proverb of life!
Steve

Hello Jagroop,
A very nice capture and message; I like how you "see"--you not only see the visible, but you also see what is inside a person.
All the best,
Karen

Dear Jagroop,
Its an inspiration for me too.

The dim light around the lantern is very effective and makes this snap really strong.
