i´ve been trying to make a study with the grotesque/ridiculous/ugly.
the lack of beauty... or another kind of beauty...
un experiment in Tv mode.
cropped, applyed auto levels/contrast. resized, saved for the web.

hehehehe guess my daughter is fed up of being my model ;)

comments very very much appreciated.

EDIT: following Luko´s suggestion I´ve just uploaded another version of the same image.

A very interesting theme. This is an intriguing shot. The composition and angle of the shot, the low light level and the grain all add to the drama of the image.

I personally like the redish colour up in the left, as it adds a sense of mystery and spirituallism to the image...is it smoke, fire or some supernatural manifestation?

IMO your experiment was a success.
Well done.

Sort of the same thing i had in mind when doing the shots for my "hysteria". Just to show that everything is not always beautifull in this world and that we need to consider the inside of a person before passing judgment...not done with that theme yet though...

It is a great exeperiment, i hope you keep doing more of them (mabye your dauther wishes otherwise...;)).It is very intresting, in a difrent way. Eventhough it is obvious that this shot was not ment to be a "pretty" potriat, i can't help but still trying to find the beauty in it. IMO. everyone has a beautifull side to them. It may be on the outside, it may be on the inside, but it is there and i can see it in this potrait too.

Such a great job Isabel! Very much a favorite.

I like what you have done here the violent expression I like the WS a lot, a little bit more than this one. I can't mark it useful I would. funny Luko made a point of my "saying goodbye" shot, I think it looks like along those lines. the background image of a person brownish is kinda in the way of the main focal point the face. I do think its a good shot still.

Cool shot Isabelle. It is definitely an interesting topic to photgraph. My daughter would NEVER pose like that for me :-)

I also agree with Luko and prefer the Workshop version.

Is this really your daughter, or simply a nightmare of yours that you project through her image? Do you have blurred nightmares filled with noise Isabelle? Your photos are so strong, I have the feeling you exorcise something through them. I prefer the original to the workshop.

Hmm - the models expression is much too forced, it looks more like a try than a success.

very strangely it reminds me one of Dave's more serious BW portrait. almost the same low key lighting and grain. Look at his image and imagine now this is a serie about character expressions Dave's grieving yours has gone mad...

the only thing that distracts me a bit is the brownish color on the top of the image, I have no problems with a lighter area but I thing the color is simply not matching, perhaps some desaturation on red color would help, it'd also decrease the brighter red color grains.

Hi Isabel, good work, excellent composition and pose.
I have another version, hope you don't mind.
Thanks for sharing.
Michael
