SHOOT WITH YOUR HEART #2
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Besides reading or studying the bride and groom’s background, characteristic, like, dislike and so on, a little more effort in knowing their social life, is advisable. It might help us in our hunting for shots. A shot, that should make the couple smile and happy for our service.
In this event, I chose to ‘learn’ about the couple (both bride and groom) best friend amongst their good friends. I felt lucky when I found out, that particular person was actually my colleague. BUT, here comes the challenge. How would I shoot this moment, when I am physically not tall enough to find a good angle for this shot?
My determination to get this shot helped me to be brave. I grab and pulled a chair within my reach. I quickly took off my shoes, while at the same time, judging ambient and ‘predicting’ the safe exposure, safe widest focal length for the shot. I stood up on a pole position… the chair, raised the camera over the celebrating guests’ head that were standing around the dining table, and of course it had to be over my head, too. And…
YAM SENG!!!… … means, CHEERS!, pronounced as ‘yum sang’
… and my blind shots burst continuously, while kept on slightly changing the POV. The shutter kept on triggered till the end of the loud cheers, err… or the camera buffer was full (whichever comes first).
So, this was the result. Mr. Ray on our left hand side was the couple’s best friend, and it was really good, knowing that the couple and their friend really appreciated this shot, of their wonderful moment.
I hope, I am triggering an idea for my friends (esp. beginners like me) in Treklens.
Happy shooting,
Ramdan |

Hi Ramdan
Very interesting pictorial of a feast event at the restuarant table.
This is a typical celebrative mood for weddings in Malaysia, the bottoms-up of the glass at a table for the best of best friends of either bride or groom.
And it is very rare that I know of, the photographer standing on a chair above the maddening crowds to shoot a scene.
You are indeed brilliant and full of resourceful idea. Mr R is teaching this one?
How I wish the groom is looking up to perfect this shot (his eyes down on the table).
You can see the differences of liquid in the glasses - one if orange softdrink, most are alcoholic, the bride possibly ribena or red wine. (none chinese tea?, nobody health conscious here, or all are in celebrative mood)
Flashlight, and no OE, so, it is good exposure.
Pov and composition is great, because cannot do better than some face cropped halfway, or the hair at lower bottom, it is unavoidable.
The most valuable of this shot, IMHO, is the expression on each face, no funny face or close eyes etc unwanted pose.
This is a good photo shot.
Great work, Ramdan and thanks for sharing it.
Cheers, bill
Hello Ramdan
Nice daily life shot and a happy friendship.
Well done
Hello Ramdan,
This is brilliant high angle composition taking rather candidly capturing the happy mood. Well managed details of the group and captured in good clarity indoor.
Wonderful moment captured!

Jusni
