[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My father had a collection of kaleidoscopes. Each one is unique and beautiful, but all are a huge challenge to photograph. I really wanted to capture the beauty you see when you look inside these. But this is the only one that I have actually been able to come close to capturing it's magic.

Getting a shot of the inside is practically impossible with most kaleidoscopes. But this one actually works sometimes. The key is to turn the flash off, and put the end of the kaleidoscope near a bright light sourse, like a lamp, and then just experiment with settings til one actually works. Also, change the pattern often, because some color combinations work and some don't.

Hi Sylvia,

What a fun collection he must have!! I was hoping you would share your notes on how in the world you did this. It's absolutely stunning! Really brings back the memories from childhood.

tfs, Lisa

A very good attempt at photographing a very difficult subject.

Very psychedelic.

sylvia,

You did a great job here. The image is beautiful: vivid colours, reflections and repeated patterns. It is great that you can preserve and share something of a family heirloom in this way.
