A mystery image today.

Not really a black & white for the Friday's theme, but a still moody experiment. I let you guess where I took it.

Of course , many people guessed right. I was actually at ground zero. Camera against the dock. The day before we had rain, followed by snow, and heavy Northwesterly winds. It created this texture on the snow coverage of section 11 of the port. The '' crest '' in the background is actually less than 30 cm high. And it is the edge of the dock. One step more , and you have a dip in the freezing Saint-Lawrence River. A steel pipe is hidden under the snow. This is why you a clean sky . The south Shore of the river is about 1.5 km away.

Now, why the snow look so dirty , while in reality is was really white. ( see the Workshop ). I just played with levels , and applied a night filter to enhance the contrats and shadows. Like a Full moon night. The illusion would have been even better in B&W.

Have a great weekend everybody! Today , we are hit by a severe snowstorm. About 30 cms of snow will be added to the ground in our region . 40 cm in Charlevoix. Winter sports will resume tomorrow. (^_^)

Shoveling will be a hot activity again!

Cheers!
Robert

It looks like you have placed your camera on ploughed/dirty snow by the roadside Robert.. Feels cool :) Good dark blue sky complements your shot.. thanks

Bonjour robert
Voilà une image hivernale dépaysante : la neige au premier plan a un drôle d'aspect, pas très attirant, mais on se croirait sur une autre planète, ou dans un paysage lunaire.
Cordialement,
Antoine.

Very intriguing shot, great POV and colours, good use of the shallow DOF. I like!

I would guess that it's a 'macro' of dirty snow but I could be very wrong.

Hi Robert

Unusual POV, it works very well! Interesting perspective across the ice. Good colours and effect. Well framed too.

TFS,

Martyn

Erik

Dark and dirty snow- not really your style!

I agree with TasmaniaC.

The low low low PoV makes this bit of snow look like enormous mountains, Robert! Very clever image. I love the fabulous blue of ths ky here.
Superb posting and a fun guessing game -- let me know if I am right please?
Wishing you a warm weekend (despite the snowstorm)

Did you go to the moon Robert?? This is really cool, I assume the camera is sitting in the ground! Hopefully not in water! LOVE the blue sky here...and I see ice crystals! So nice!

Wonderful low angle Robert!
I love the way the light sort of.... sneaks in from the right.
Great image!

Macro - snow and ice at eye level seems too easy. Wide angle shot gave interesting DOF.

Very effective point of view! It has the mood of an alien landscape - I'm sure if you post processed the colours into orange, you could convince people that it's Mars! Nice photo
