This image has no sense for me. What are you want to say with it?
And I can´t understand how someone can LOVE IT bunch of bullets, in those times when people dying all over the world every seconds for nothing. But of those bullets.

It's funny how certain members of the world always seem to drag their political beliefs into a photograph. They say the want the photo to say something that they understand or they will not reward points for it. LOL They do not understand that it's the quality of the photo that matters most. Because you posted a photo of a bullet they had to write a negative critique. How many lives does the ocean take in a year? An automobile? This is a simple photograph of bullets which shows good control of aperture and wonderful vibrant colors. I recently received a pretty harsh message from one of the people above that talks about "people dying all over the world every seconds". This is JUST a photograph of a normally boring subject but you seem to have brought some technically striking details out of it. I like this piece of work and I applaud you for posting it. It could use a few more notes.

Hi Joel,
I saw your pic, and I read your message. I don't understand how people react negatively to this pic. Yes, this is bullets. Yes, there are a lot of people who will die from those, but this is the message I take from this picture.
Each person has its own understanding of a picture. For me, you just said that there are too many bullets in the world and too many people will die because of it.

I very much like you picture. The quality of the artistic work, but also the message I understood from it.

There will always be people to dislike what you do. Don't worry about them. Continue to do what you do so good.

Great sequence of these bullets and lighting. Colors, POV, DOF, sharpness, and contrast are all very well executed. I really like how they are reflected upon the table as well. This is such a creative shot because the depth of field is perfect IMO and the bullets lead straight into the back of the picture. I can't believe some have taken this picture in the WRONG direction. Anyways, thanks for sharing,

If you do or don't like bullets, you have got to like the qulaity and techniques of this image. Great exercise on DOF and the relationship with f stop. Very impressive exposure Joel.

Joel - you have produced an image that has raised strong emotions and if a photograph can do that then, like the subject or not, people should acknowledge you have used the medium well.

Technically this image if well composed, well exposed and a great lesson in depth of field. All that an emotional as well - it is a good photograph.

Very good shot Joel (no pun intended - well, maybe a little bit). I love the shallow DoF and the crystal clarity of the bullets nearest camera. Great technical shot and as Richard says, it's made people think. Good work!

Displays like this are an important part of unifying a country. People need to know that their military are not dangerous ... ... ...
And here I am an avowed pacifist looking at the psychology of the display!
I have no love of war or fighting. I abhor both. When my eldest daughter joined the cadet corps as a teenager I had to bite my tongue. I was terrified that she might get called up for real service some time.
And yet I do understand the need for a country's show of force - it prevents other nations from attempting to over-run them.
Enough about the psychology here.

The image per se is superbly composed, on the thirds, with one single bullet perfectly in focus on a power point (where the lines of thirds intersect. This is a powerful photo that can as easily be used as a poster against war as it can as a poster for peace-keeping and to promote the military.

Weapons are one of the most dual human creation. They can be beuty and revulsive at the same time, how your picture shows nice and revolving objects.

By the way bala is the spanish word for bullet, it came from an old franc word meaning ball, from the time bullets were actually lead or iron balls.

Una de los fotografos legendarios del siglo XX es un fotografo de guerra, su nombre, Andrei Friedmann mas conocido por su seudonimo de Robert Capa. Creo que hablar de fotografia es necesariamente hablar de la realidad que se mira o se intrepreta y la guerra nos guste o no, esta ahi. En el caso de Capa las fotos sobre eventos de guerra como la civil española o el desembarco a Normandia, son historicas. Su imagen mas lograda es la de muerte de un miliciano que no por terrifica no deja de ser una muy buena fotografia. Otras imagenes famosas de guerra como la de la niña del nalpam, el ajusticiamiento de un vietcong, la expulsion de los judios del getho de Varsovia, o en la actualidad las tremendas fotografias de temas violentos como lo son la migracion y las condiciones de trabajo alrededor del mundo de Sebastiao Salgao son temas que aunque tragicos, no dejan de ser motivo de documento Que te lo diga cualquier editor de fotografia de un periodico o revista. Es decir, Leni Riefenstahl es buena fotografa indepenientemente de su nazismo, y en otro plano Borges es un gran escritor independientemente de su apoyo a los militares o Garcia Marquez independientemete de su apoyo a Castro. Una fotografia es buena o no independientemente del punto de vista politico que tenga de la realidad que retrata el cual nunca es inocente.
Si algun miembro de TL quiere cerrar los ojos ante la diversidad del mundo es su problema pero TL es un sitio que busca "learning more about the world through photography". Si alguien no quiere aprender sea con fotografia o sin ella es su problema.
Esta es una simple foto de balas, donde la composicion y el ritmo hacen la escena atractiva. La foto no es mala, a mi me gusta. Lo que mas llama la atencion es que se piense que es una apologia de la guerra. Es cierto, no hay mirada inocente nunca. Pero tampoco cerrar los ojos es inocente. Tambien un monton de balas es fotografiable por muy disgustante que sea de mirar o precisamente por ello. Perdon por este largo comentario. Saludos.

I was wondering what bala was as I couldnt identify it from the thumbnail:) Regardless of the nature of the subject, the shot is a real beauty, and that's what matters at Treklens. Excellent POV and composition, with the ones in the f/g being out of focus.
