Silo - Over the River
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I'd have titled this "Over the River and Through the Woods" had there been room. Although it's nearly Easter, this one makes me think of the old Thanksgiving and Christmas season song about going to grandmother's house. When I saw this partially frozen stream flowing toward the farm in the distance, I wanted to preserve the memory.
Technical note: This was taken at sunset, with some pleasing but tricky lighting. PP includes levels and color balance adjustments to bring it back to reality; also, one pass of the light-and-shadows sharpening plug-in for The Gimp and, after final sizing, one pass of USM.
With this post, I'm launching a new group theme titled "Impressions of Silo Country." I hope many of you will take part, and I look forward to seeing the results. |

Hi Jim,
Nice scenery in this image.
However, on my screen the snow seems a little blue .... and I'm afraid you sharpened too much.
The image is very clear !!

A very nice image and to me the blue adds atmosphere emphasizing the "coldness". You may want to correct the slight tilt.

and also for the nice comment onmy Botswana sunset photo
Ok, I gotta critique this one. The comp is wonderful, super colors with the bit of pink on the silo, however it's way over-sharpened and the horizon line isn't straight, by looking at the silo, you can get a straight up and down reference. Compression will do this sometimes to a shot, it just takes practice to know when to sharpen and when not to. I don't sharpen until the LAST and final product is ready to go!
