Calla Lilies
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Calla lilies are my wife's favorite flower and last year I bought her a potted group that she planted in the backyard. A few short days later the dog dug them up. She replanted them, but the dog dug them up again. Now they are ex-lilies. She was having a really bad day last week and I decided to surprise her with another bouquet of lilies. I did manage to hold off a couple days before I asked her if I could borrow them for some photos, otherwise she's see right through the rouse (I hope she's not reading now).
As far as technical details, I placed these in my new home studio (a desk in the living room) and originally set up one tungsten studio modelling light to the right, but decided that it was much too harsh. Without much room to set up another or play with a reflector, I switched off the modelling light and went with a regular tungsten lamp (from Ikea no less) immediately to the right of the frame. I tried the best I could to underexpose the leaves underneath, but wasn't entirely able to block the light without affecting the petals.
In RAW I adjusted white balance, tinting, exposure, contrast, sharpness, and added a little vingetting just to tone down the green leaves. I then bounced to Photoshop and burned in the leaves to the top left a little, cropped, and resized for TrekLens.
I hope you like it. Let me know your honest opinions!

Best regards!
Lili
Nice shot of these lilies I like the simplicity of the shot with the two colours and the smooth texture of the flowers My only criticism is that you have cropped a little too close
warm regards
David
