. . . . . . . .

Learning from several critiques to my previous shots, I do a little experiment which is huge learning for me . . Originally it is color and some shadows . . I tried to see different perspective of colorful dancer in BW . .

What did I do to this image? This is the original version . .

1. Set exposure to the max

2. Set mid tone to the left till washout all the detail of her face . .

3. Increase mid contrast to focus on her eyes . .

4. Remove the shadows on the wall . .

5. Crop the left part

6. Add frame and resize . .

I should do it better . .

Thank you for viewing it . .

Cheers,
Tjutjut

HI Tjutjut! I love this type of processing! There is a lady on this site that does this marvelously! I may post a pic of the Bride and her grandaughter this next week, using this process! It's one of my favorite!
Check out this lady: Here

Jens.

I love what you have done Tjutjut, you can still see her bright smile, but the emphasis is on her eyes.
As far as I am concerned a great job.

TFS and have a great weekend,

Els

Awesome shot Tjutjut! This is very eyecatching from the white and black tones. Perfect details and great off-centering!

Whew ... this is a hard critique for me to make because after all the wonderful praise you have given my shots, my sense of loyalty says I should tell you this is great.

At the risk of hurting your feelings, though, I have to say it doesn't quite work for me, and I think the problem isn't your processing of the shot - it's the original image itself.

Unfortunately, your focus locked on her far eye, or at least the bridge of her nose, leaving the near side of her face, and her head-dress, out of focus. In my opinion that is reason enough to shrug and say "oh well" and delete the shot and simply try again.

I also don't think the composition or crop suits the subject, and the angle of her face isn't so flattering - her nose competes with her cheek, her eyes are viewed too much from the side; either her face should be more towards the camera, or the shot should be more in profile.

The high-key approach is an interesting one, although I have to say that the egg-coloured frame doesn't suit it either, nor the faux bevelled edge outside that.

In short mate - I'm really really sorry, but I have to give this one a bad smiley. I'm glad you had the courage to share it though.

regards
Rew

Your "line drawing" is a great improvement over the original. Just goes to show that someone with skill and imagination can take an average picture and make it into a fine piece of art. BRAVO!

I very much like the results, Tjutjut. Her eyes really are worthy of all the attention here. Her beautiful head gear takes from that focus in the coloured version. I really think your experiment created a beautiful result. Very well done indeed.

I like b/w for the purpose that it makes one concentrate on details rather than the vividness of a color. This is beautifully done and may I say wow! those are some gorgeous lashes. I like your pov. TFS

Hi Tjutjut,

Very interesting experiment, artistic too, it look great, you have done well in this photo. I can't really tell you what to do with the portrait as I myself is not pro.. lol, however for me I think if you can change the colours of the frame from Cream to white, it will be more effective, that's just my personal thought. :D Hope you don't mind.

Have a great weekend,

Cheers,

Hi Tjutjut
This is a very strong composition.
beautiful.

An experiment well carried out Tjutjut. There are so many variations of BW with outlines that any would have sufficed. What I like most of all is that the highlights around her eyes have remained and of course, that smile. TFS,
David
