[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This giant Matai stands in the Turnbull Valley, South Westland, and is known by all the locals as the 'Saw' tree. Many years ago a sign was written on a saw blade and attached to the tree. The writing eventually washed off and someone found a better use for the blade many years ago.
It is estimated to be 800 - 1000 years old and although it has lost many of it's limbs it still stands tall and proud - and loved by everyone!

This was a difficult picture to take as I didn't want the road going through the middle but a different angle puts the tree in front of the mountain. There is another dead tree not far behind the Saw Tree which I didn't want in the picture.
This is the first rays of sun in the morning.

An interesting view that I am not familiar. I feel that there are Hobbits and Orks behind the tree and the hills :)
