Hi Treklensers - This is my contribution to Helen's latest Friday theme "Woodland walk". It was taken in Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territory.

What you see here isn't fog though, but smoke. It is from one of the many fires lit deliberately all over the Australian continent's woodlands - and wetlands. Called 'fire management' this practice of nature control had been applied by Australia's indigenous peoples, the Aborigines, for thousands of years.

However, when the British colonised the continent they stopped it. The consequences were disasterous: All the the grasses, shrubs, leaves etc that had gathered on the ground and dreid up during the hot season now provided fuel for much bigger, most destructive and uncontrollable fires. Finally, in the last decades or so, white man learnt from black man (hear, hear) and re-introduced the ancient indigenous practice of fire managment.

Thank you for visiting and have a good weekend, friends!

Hello Cordelia,

Nice shot you have here, look mystery but beautiful, nice composition. If you didn't mention it is smoke, I would have think it is fog... and you are taking photo there? I hope the smoke didn't get to you. :D

Have a great weekend,

Cheers,
Sweety

Hello Cordelia,

I thought it was mist so I was interested to read your interesting notes.

The smoke creates a misty atmoshere made even more interesting by the shafts of sunlight.
Good composition.

Kind regards,
Bev:-)

Bonjour Cordelia
Très belle vue de cette foret enfumée. Les silhouettes fantomatiques des arbres confèrent cette foret une ambiance de mystère des plus esthétique. Bravo et bien vu. De plus la note est instructive.
Amicalement

Amazing tropical mood Cordelia,I can allmost hear the silence.

Excellent notes Cordelia, I was going to mention the same in my offering for this week. A typical Northern scene with good colour and detail regardless of the smoke. Please send your notes to the Tasmanian Greens, they are kicking up a stink about the controlled burns happening here. They are playing havoc with my health but rather that than destructive fires. TFS,
David

Annie
