I took my daughter to an equestrian centre today. I only took my camera to capture a couple of snapshots of my girl riding on a pony.

So this again is just a snapshot but I kind of liked this one's eyes, it had amazing well aged eyes but sad almost.

It would have been neat to have "picked off" just his eye with a longer lens because I couldn't get too close as the horse was a little nervous.

Anyways the horse paused briefly for me to get a side mug shot,

Thanks for the view

Oh my Scott, we must be twins! I spent all day at the Stables, taking shots of horses, my friend riding, all sorts of neat textures and rusty things! Beautiful shot!

Some great light hitting the horse from the front here Scott,
the way you composed this almost makes it look like a classic painting of a horse. Kind of eerie in a way.
I like it. Well done my friend.

Scott I agree a closer shot of the eye would have been interesting, but the shot your presented certainly tells a story.
Colors and detail with what appears to be a limited light source are very well captured and the shadows help create the element of saddness in its eye.
Good photo and notes Scott

Like the clarity of the horse's eye too Scott and What you have done or captured by way of lighting - the partial yellow cast makes the image look as old as the horse.

I agree with your observations on the eye, Scott. What character and sadness. I really like how she blends into the background with the features then so well shown. This is truly a touching and beautiful image. Excellent.

Nice portrait. The shadows emphasize the sad mood. The blue eye has crystal-like luminescence. If you go again, what about trying your luck with a tripod and using a greater DoF and see how that works.

Hi Scott:)
I missed this one - it is artistic portrait and with great light control, lovely shot.
Tom:)

Hi Scott,
I know in human portrait shots, the eyes plays an important role.... it is the window to the soul. But judging from this shot, I must say the it is the same with other animals. You've captured that sad eyes perfectly ... the shadows and contrast also created a somber atmosphere. Well composed with very good use of low lighting condition. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Scott
I like your portrait of this Appaloosa and his glass eye. They call blue eyes in horses glass for some reason. I like the way the horse is looking straight ahead. The dark background brings out his colour and his blue eye so well.
