Another snap from Hong Kong airport - I love the architecture here, it really lends itself to the fisheye lens.

This shot was a bit experimental from me - I forced myself away from my irrational fixation with wide apertures to try and get both a sharper image throughout and a sense of movement with slightly blurred figures via the 1/6 shutterspeed.

I've written about the airport before, so this time just a wee snippet about Hong Kong itself, courtesy of Wikipedia...

"The currency used in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong dollar. Since 1983 it has been pegged at a fixed exchange rate to the United States dollar. The currency is allowed to trade within a range between 7.75 and 7.85 Hong Kong dollars to one United States dollar. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is the sixth largest in the world, with a market capitalisation of about US$2.97 trillion as of October 2007. In 2006 the value of initial public offerings conducted in Hong Kong was second highest in the world after London."

Back to the photo...

The camera was resting on a barrier between the walkways.

ISO 200, f22, 1/6

Shot in RAW, slight crop after minor clockwise rotation, jpegged, resized, sharpened.

A very beautiful image!! Very sharp. I like the blurred figures giving us the sense of the hustle and bustle of the airport. Have a great day!

Hi , really nice vanishing point composition, nice lighting and details as well as the motion blur

This is a fabulous shot Richard.
I love the geometry and lines and unique POV.
An excellent vanishing point, and quality to the image.
Really nice experimentation.

Great !

Beautiful camera, beautiful lens and beautiful photo.
I love the soft blue-like colour.

Nice job, amazing picture

Interesting image. Good lines and angles, nice sharpness, good perspective. It appears to have a slight tilt toward the left which I find a bit disconcerting, but over all, a really decent shot. Thanks,
Shelly

I've seen so many shots of HK airport, and never actually been there!

I like this for the sense of 'being there.' The daylight beyond the windows to the right. The typically weary travellers on their way along the concourse.

Good capture.

Hi Richard.... It must have been about 3 am when you took the shot! Where are all of the people??

Interesting shot. I like the point of view you have chosen (reminds me of star trek). Great repetitive patterns of light, arrows, etc... Looks like it goes on forever!

thanks for sharing this one.. It's a keeper! Lisa

Greetings Richard
I much prefer these setting and let the moving people move in the image. Great clarity front to back. Always a good idea to get out of the "box" now and again.

Been off the machine for a while but should be back for a while now.

Dan

Greetings, Richard -
Really great POV for this shot. I love the symmetry and the graphics. The slow shutter speed produced a nice dream-like effect with the people on the moving walkway. I agree that the fish-eye worked well here. Nice shot.

Hi Richard
Fantastic shot, the vanishing point bang in the middle of the shot works a treat and the sense of movement in the people brings the shot to life
Have a good one

Wow! . . 15mm fisheye . . I don't know how to set smaller aperture . . Smallest I used is f/16 . .
Great presentation of this wide angle perspective of the airport . .
I am planning to go to Bali next week after one day trip to Singapore on Wednesday . . and will borrow from a friend this kind of wide lens . .

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Many thanks for your kind words on 4 or 6 eyes? .

Nice effect. I had been there when it opens year 98', very huge beautiful airport surrounded by mountains.

Hi Richard,

Thank you. Colors are very good to.

Hi Richard, Good result from your experiment which is susccessful. Looks like a photo suitable for a newspaper etc. Interesting ceiling designs well shown. TFS. Murray.

Wow... this really feels like a tube and the longer I look at it it feels more and more as if I get sucked in!
Great image Richard... I really like all the lines in the ceiling and the reflections in the middle path looking like arrows....
The movement of the people makes it a real dynamic picture.

Cheers,
Anneke

Wonderful depth of field. (the abbreviation seemed to cheap to describe what you've portrayed here)
The natural lighting and colors are magnificent and all of the facets of this just draw the viewers eye to the "black hole" at the end of the tunnel (black hole meant in a good sense here) and the motion blurred passengers add to that sense, for me, of being pulled in as my eye is here.
Nicely done, really a slick image.
Thanks for sharing this,
Wilt

HI Richard
I remember this being very crowded, mind you it was around Xmas time, it is strange to see it so empty. We almost had a moment of panic, till we saw the chinese who were there to greet us standing with carboard with our names on it.

You did a great capture of the repeating symmetrical lines going into a vanishing point, and the movement of the people almost makes it into an action shot.

Very clever! I like the PoV with the moving sidewalks -- and this is how I FEEL about airports!
Great posting
