The New Plymouth Carrillion is a memorial to one of New Plymouths favourite lady’s – Mabel Kibby.

The set of 31 bells weigh close to 4 tonne and hang from a frame high rising high above the summit of Marsland Hill, in the centre of the city.

The range of tunes playable is quite astonishing –traditional to modern, and includes a selection of special occasion tunes for festivals such as Christmas.

When erected in 1971 the bells were played manually, however the system is now triggered electronically three times daily. When the prevailing wind carries the sound across the city many visitors stop in their tracks, amazed at the clarity and depth of sound.

Marvellous Capture. A very arty POV adds a lot of perspective to the shot.
great addition to the theme, very unique.

I wonder what would it be like to hear all of them together.

What a lot of bells and what a loud sound they must make. And how lovely it must be to hear them too. I do miss hearing the church bells we used to hear many years ago.
Good one for the theme Kay

Hi Kay,
Very interesting pattern shot, I like the touch of blue sky against the black and white bells. This would have suited todays theme as well.
Pete.
