The dome in the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence was built in 1420 - 1436. The dome with lantern is 114.5 metres high. Its internal diameter is 45,4 metres. The dome was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. In 1572 - 1579 Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari painted the fresco with a representation of The Last Judgment.

florence, like many of the cities in italy, is rich in beautiful art. i have visited quite a few churches and duomo in italy but florence stole my heart.

if you can, visit orvieto it, to, is beautiful.(so are the local wines)
