The Tower Bridge is one of most well known landmarks in London, dating from the Victorian era. It was designed by Wolfe Barry and Horace Jones and completed in 1894. It has the peculiar and distinctive feature of being able to raise the middle of the bridge enable large vessels to pass under it.

The bridge is 60 meter (197 ft) long and its towers rise to a height of 43 meter. From the top of the towers, you have a great view on the center of London. You can also visit the inside of the tower, where you can observe the original mechanism used to raise the bridge.

Tower Bridge is currently enjoying a major 'facelift' costing £4m, and taking four years to complete. The work entails stripping-off the existing paint and repainting in blue and white. Each section will be enshrouded in scaffolding to prevent the old paint falling into the Thames causing pollution.

It is expected to remain open until winter 2010, but is then expected to be closed for several months.

Hello Martyn,

I have seen many shots of Tower Bridge on TL but must say, this is one of the finest! Your pov is perfect giving a good angled view which fulfils perspective, detail and composition! The blues of the bridge match so well with the lovely sky! A great shot!

Hello Martyn,
this one remines me of a shot taken from the same POV 25 years ago - and nothing has really changed since then and I think not much in the last hundreds of years. Great memory and good exposure.
