Look twice at this image and you will see a bit of modern life that seems out of keeping with the peaceable scene – no matter where she is, Mama is on the phone.
In fact, the entire time that I was wandering about this stretch of beach, taking pictures and enjoying the air and the soothing sounds of waves lapping at the sand, that cell phone was pressed up against Mama’s ear while her son met new kids and played with them in the shallows.

Tech: Captured in raw, adjusted levels and contrast, converted to jpg, cloned out several distracting figures in the background, resized, sharpened and signed

Thanks for looking, for your critiques and suggestions for improvement and have a relaxing, happy, healthy weekend

You stole my heart with this one Silke! This has got to be my fav, not just because of the adorable kids, but the beach is my favorite place to hang out. There are millions of photo ops there! You caught the moment so perfect! The little blonde boy reminds me of my Andy! Love your colors here, the clothing pops out of the neutral sand! Excellent work! And yes, that dang phone is a pain! I get so angry at the interruptions of life by the phone! Unless someone is dying, I keep it off when spending time with loved ones!

Hi Silke,

It should be against the law that when you are out with the kids you use the cellphone.

This really is a most relaxing and beautiful composition. With a bit of luck I hope to see scenes like this next weekend.
Absolutely lovely work here.

TFS
Els

Lovely composition Silke and your note is excellent. I have just put a post of an image I shot whilst on holidays and I am as guilty as this lady of carrying one of these phones whist on holidays. It is a sad fact that this technology with all its benefits is robbing us of our most valuable possession ..... time.

Well seen.

Hello Silke
The reflection are really nice. Wonderful light.. I love all the protection the middle on has... SPF suit and nice big hat :)

I have to agree with Els! Does she realize all the wonders she is missing with that device attached to her?

Have a great weekend

Tricia

Exactly why I don't own one. I see so many people on their cells phones while at work too. It's a very nice picture though, the colors and reflections are very pretty. Have a good day!

Hello Silke,

You observe well!
I see this all the time when parents are too occupied to play with their children, talk to their children or, in some cases, even notice their children!
Good details with the children up to their knees in water, the soft reflections, the rippling circles and the ridged sand.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Silke

Good reflections & the attire of the 2 small kids is so cute. Wonderful colour & sharpness. Tfs!

Morning Silke
I think future Mama's grand children will have cell phones implanted in their skulls - the ultimate hands-free phone.
Anyway, like your attention to detail with the water/reflections as well as the perfect composition of the people in the overall image. Simple but elegant.

Hi Silke,
Very fine observation of the modern life!
A pity to not enjoy a so beautiful moment with her children! They grow so quickly! Where I live, the strong cliffs in edge of the sea prevent the use of cell phone! I never complained of this disadvantage!
I like the composition with these nice reflections. The two kids are adorable!
Bravo! Annie

A powerful and sad message indeed Silke.
I like the DOF in this shot. Good choice with f/11.
The subtle reflections are a nice touch.
Well done. TFS.

A wonderful beach scene but kind of sad she couldn't enjoy her time with her kids. Have to admit I love my cell but there is a time to use them and a time to just enjoy the simple pleasures of life. However you capturing it with camera Love it!!1 makes for a great pic. TFS

Hi Silke lovely seaside shot, a shame the young woman is not playing with the children.

Very nice natural colours, nice and sharp,

I think I would have liked to have seen three people lower in the frame as they were walking into the frame, you must have decided this was better.

Regards
Gil

Hello, Silke.

What a wonderful peaceful scene and what lovely reflections on that water.

But what a sad reflection on life these days - everywhere I go, I see people with these mobile 'phones stuffed in their ears. And when they're talking or listening on these 'phones, they appear, to all intents and purposes, to be brain-dead to anything else or anyone else around them, whether they be driving cars or blocking supermarket aisles or standing obtructing doorways and stairways. Drives me nuts!

Oooh, calm down, that's better. Yes, Silke, a very nice photograph, spoiled only by one tiny piece of modern technology!

Kind Regards and Have a Great Weekend without a mobile 'phone!

John.

Hello Silke. the title and the image complements well. I like the placement of the subjects on top of the frame capturing the full reflection on the surface. Very good exposure and detail in the shot.Well done and best regards. Jusni

She sure was calling the police, telling that someone was 'capturing' her.
Pity the wind was on the watersurface, would have been nice to see what 'pants' she had on. haha
Good looking candid, Silke.

Hello Silke !

First , your subject, Cellular phones, I honestly avoid using them. For more then twenty years I have to work with one 24 hours a day. So whenever, I have time off, I throw it away (^_^). Just kidding of course. I still carry it in my car , in case of emergency.

But honestly , I affectionate places where there is no signal (^_^).

I love the way you composed your shot keeping the full body reflections. I find althought a bit tight your crop at the top. You could have cloned the kid in the background too, for a cleaner composition . Just a few thoughts.

Cheers!
Robert :) will follow
Believe or not , Out of them today . It has been a while it happened to me (^_^)

I have one but being deaf I can't here it ring :), good for text messages if Sandy needs anything while I am out. Lovely detail in the image Silke and good colour. I read Robert's comment about the cloning and your response. Take the child out and leave the reflection there, it would be no different than having a fence reflected.
David

Hi Silke,
You had a good eye for capturing this scene. Indeed, one can see this very often. And even children are more and more connected to these phones. Probably the people are bored by their environment and seek each other to talk about things they already know.
Human being in progress.
TFS.
greetings,
Joop!

Hi Silke
Greta shot, it would also be a nice B&W shot. I love the reflections and you should've taken that phone from her and threw it in the water :)
well done,
Shelby

Hi Silke - like the shot but your observation was most interesting, mom maybe physically present, but to bad doesn't have time to invest in the children. (I know that may seem harsh but see this so often now)
re the photo, enjoyed the POV you used, the little one with the hat was what caught my attention at first, along with the rich colors (blues).
