This picture is only a test with a combination of lens Canon L 100-400 f4-5.6 + TC 1.4 + extention tube 12 MM. No flash was used to take the picture only natural light at sunset. Post-processing : only sharpen as usual for me.

Have a nice day to all and thanks for your comments. JYB

Hi Jean - I think this deserves a point or two, but as per your request, none shall be left :-)

I think this is a very nice shot, and all credit to you for trying different set-ups and testing your equipment. There is a painting-like quality to this shot, almost like one of those oriental silk paintings. There is also a lovely, peaceful feel to the image - "serene" is the word that springs to mind.

My only slightly negative comment would be that the eye is slightly left of centre and I think there may be a more balanced feel, given the pose, if the eye was right of centre.

But overall a very nice and interesting piece of work - good stuff!

Wow, this is a very beautiful image.
The exposure is perfect.

a beautiful soft look picture created by beautiful soft light. An attractive composition with nice curve and feather pattern of heron is well balance to pattern of foreground and background.Although it's not much light,it can show sharpness of heron's beautiful colors and feather detail very well as well as the hilight at heron's head made this shot a charming one :)

Hi Jean,

I think your test has worked very well, lovely muted tones and I like the way the low light just brings out detail down the right hand side, very effective.

hi Jean

I agree, it is worth 2 points.

From the thumbnail, I am already attracted to this well managed light control in shooting the bird which is very rare. I am surprised that you shot this at 1/640 under dim light and using that lens of f/4.5-5.6 with 1.4x tube and yet it gives a good sharpness and under-exposed shade of light.

The effect is just like a water color painting.

well done and a fine post.

Bonjour Jean-Yves,
Bravo! Annie

Hi Jean Yves,
Very good capture of this Heron.
The exposure is great: just enough to see "everything" AND not too much, so the atmosphere is still there.
The Heron shows his S-posure, which is nice very to see.
greetings,
Joop!
