Fight or flight?

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a picture of what is called a 'banana spider' as in the sunlight they are bright yellow. This critter caused quite a stir as I saw him hanging from the eaves one evening. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love the fact that spiders eat other bugs, however, I don't like to get in their 'space,' and the same goes for me! Circumstances dictated, that after his 'pose,' he had to go. I batted him down twice so it wasn't like I didn't try to give him some leeway but he/she seemed to like the spot there where there was some light attracting bugs of the night and returned twice. So he was disposed of. They are mildly poisonous here and if one were allergic, could potentially kill. The tropical cousin is much more potent and deadly.
pp: crop and adjust angle, added the frame because of the poisonous black widow and used 'her' colors.
Now, will you be able to sleep tonight? I walked into the web twice. There was another one that had strung a web all the way from a tree 50 feet away to the corner of the house. I had never seen that long of an 'anchor line.' They only seem to appear in July and August during the warm nights and soon disappear again with their 'prey' to hatch eggs for the next year. Some of these spiders can live 2 or 3 years. Interestingly, his butt looks like an alien head attached to legs. |
