Shadow Time
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Hi, this is my entry for this weeks "Time" theme, its a bit late, not had the "Time" Lol.
I took this photo of this sundial while on holiday at Onich, Fort William.
Stolen from Wikipedia:
"A sundial is a device that measures time by the position of the Sun. In common designs such as the horizontal sundial, the sun casts a shadow from its style (a thin rod or a sharp, straight edge) onto a flat surface marked with lines indicating the hours of the day. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadow-edge progressively aligns with different hour-lines on the plate. Such designs rely on the style being aligned with the axis of the Earth's rotation. Hence, if such a sundial is to tell the correct time, the style must point towards true North (not the north or south magnetic pole) and the style's angle with horizontal must equal the sundial's geographical latitude. However, many sundials do not fit this description, and operate on different principles."
Thanks for looking,

Hi Holly
Good notes, about a facinating "astronomical" clock, and all you need to make one, is a bit of a stick... and some sun lol
Good idea for the theme
Cheers

Bonsoir Holly,
but what time is it? not possible to respond when the sun isn't at rendez-vous. Good details, a picture is clear.
Fortunately, watchmakers have made progress, if we had our wrists portions watches the same type, this is still heavy, and I guess just to respond to my question, the difficulty to meet the person who asks :O))
Best regards,
Corinne
Hi Holly
Lovely detail and composition on this shot, pity the sun wasn't shining for you
Cheers

PS Say hello to the old fella for me !
Hi Holly
Good idea for the theme - ours are like opposites...today digital then a sundial! Nice composition in this image - and I like the angle of the shot - the muted colours help it to look aged.
Nicely framed and good note
Cheers
Linzi
i was going to put one of these sun dials up for this theme. ah well. you can also make a dial for the months of the year but it comes on a larger scale.
hello Holly
A nice capture here with good detail, nice colour tones and neat framing too. Interesting notes make a good addition here.
TFS and for joining in the theme
Kind regards Helen
