| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I'll start off by saying that I am new to both TL and the world of photography as a whole. I have taken the occasional photo when travelling and at birthday parties and such, but this is my first camera that can function as more than a mere tool of recording the reality. What I am trying to say here is that with this camera, I can truly take pictures that say something, that create meanings in addition to just recording them. This photo is one of the very first (somewhat) successful test shots I have taken. I hope you like it, but I welcome critique of all kinds with open arms. Thank you.
This is my father reading a newspaper. I did not think about it at the time, but when later reviewing the shot, I realized that the hand was a 'reading hand' - thus, a 'hand reading'. To me, this photo is as much a verbal as a visual thing.
The composition is not perfect. Then again, I was not going for perfection. With this camera, it is remarkably easy to take sufficiently sharp photos with a relatively high exposure time in low-light situations like this - the sun pretty low and partially blocked by clouds and trees. (The camera is very new to me, so these are, in a way, all experimental shots.)
Originally a colour shot.
Converted to B&W with a computer, sharpened and changed contrast/brightness. Uncropped. |

Hello Antti,
Good idea and presented well.. I think the composition is good and you made it better by converting B&W..
Nice photo..
Wellcome :)
This is a very nice photo and it says something.
But, in my humble opinion, I would have cropped a little more and add some contrast. I made a worshop. Hope you'll like it. Again, it is just an opinion.
Welcome to TL and come again.
JN.
Hands usually tell stories...I love hands captures.
A begginer?
Can't wait next work.. an artist is just born...
Cheers!!
Carmem
( I don't agree with the wss ... I like your cropping... maybe a lower angle could be useful...but I like it!!)
