Fragile Moments

This is my first contribution to the Scavenger Hunt / The Hunt III - Red

We celebrated our first Mothersday, with a very nice bodylotion and perfume "Miracle - by Lancôme" we, Thibault and me, also surpised my wife and mother with these roses.

Twentyfive roses, 2 and 5, our son was born on the 2nd of May, 2-5-2005, at 20:08 (okay, almost 20:05 also but we are now with the three of us now so that makes 20:08).

Because we were in the first days after the birth of our son we were really tired. We did not get much of sleep but we were, are, so happy on a very little peace on this earth. It is all so close, fragile and new.

So, in this composition I tried to recreate that moment and atmosphere. Fragile in the drops of water, intensity in the red, and macro for that very happy little spot on this earth.

We hope that you can enjoy the feeling of that moment with us and so we all create more love and happiness on this earth.

Have a smile dear friends, see you again,
Richard

Technical aspects:
I placed the flowers in front of the window so I could also use some incoming daylight mainly for the background. Poured large amount of water over the flowers to make them really wet and get on the border of earth's gravity. It was typical Dutch weather so I needed a bit of flash to lighten up the flowers and the reflections in the drops of water.

Postprocessing: PhotoShop, some L (levels), CB (color balance), used some diffuse glow and finally a bit USM (unsharp mask) and a frame.

Conditions: really tired on some moment of a day. You know I had to make this photo as part of the photos of Thibault, being a father also makes you a reporter.

My Goal: Just like I mentioned before. How are we all doing? Look at the photo, we think it says it all. Enjoy!

Feedback request: We find it very difficult to create the photo's that show the feeling, the moment, what's in our mind. Time seems to pass so quickly, intense moments are followed by many others, and our camera feels a bit incompatible, no camera mode that really can capture that...
So, in a way, we must capture with our hart!
We wonder what you think, just let us know. See you again, Richard

Hi Richard, isn't it miraculous to embark on the biggest adventure of your life. Nothing compares to it,the bliss of being a parent. And at the same time, I think there is also the biggest feeling of vulnaribility associated with it. I think your picture is absolutely wonderful. I first thought it was a combination of two pictures first. Absolutely smashing picture, red roses are wonderful, you captured the 'velvet' feeling of the petals really well.

Wonderful job !

Beautiful, wonderful, full of softness and the exact colours for this.
The water and drops are the fine details here, great picture, Richard !

The finest of art, both in photo and verse, dear Richard. The joy the three of you feel and the love spreads across the oceans to us all to touch. This exquisite red rose with the perfect drops on it express your heart perfectly. And we send our love to three now, instead of two.... Happiness and hugs and wings to fly........:O)

The numbers all add up to a happy occassion. My congratulations to you both on your first Mother's Day.
I love the way you have submerged the rose in water. Reminds me of a baby in the stomach with the embriotic fluid. (hope I spelt that right). The air bubbles on the rose is like the oxygen being supplied to your baby from Mummy. Just love the emotion in this photo as you said in your note. You've made my day today. Thank you. One of my absolute favourites.

Good moment of fragility! Nice and rich texture. Water refresh a lot the view! Good one!

Wow, Richard, you've got me speechless... Your picture is so nice, it's a good macro and a wonderful catch for the hunt. And the note is so sweet. I'm not a mother yet myself, but I'm an aunt and that already gives me such a tender feeling. (but I'm aware that this doesn't compare at all to becoming a parent!)
Thanks for this wonderful post, I enjoyed it a lot.

Exquisitely done. A good contribution to the hunt. Like the water drops on the soft petals. The flower almost looks flat nice PP as usual. Thanks Richard

Prachtwerk, Richard. Uitstekende scherpte op de rozen en de druppeltjes, prachtige verzadiging van de kleuren ook. Mooi. TFS.

Quelle magnifique macro Richard. Elle rend bien le velouté des pétales. Le rouge est superbe. Belle profondeur de champ. Bravo. Amitié, Patty.

Beautiful composition Richard , it realy is a eyecatcher, the way the droplets are placed and the colorbalance ...just great !!

First thing I said when I viewed this was, "WOW."
Excelent shot and well done this composition.
I think I would have gone higher on the DOF say, F14 or so.
Anyhow, beautiful work.

Mike

the lighting and sharpness are exceptional . This is a professional job ! Jim

Unusually attractive composition. Also outstanding in focusing/DOF and colour.

I cannot believe I haven't seen this one when you've posted it!!! This is by far the most beautiful macro of a rose I've seen. Wow! I love it! And you've composed it so well, it's so sharp and well saturated! A true gem!!!!!
