Niagara Falls, the American Falls with the Canadian side in the back.

HDR-processing and tonemapping done with Qtpfsgui.

**************************

The Niagara Falls
are massive waterfalls on the Niagara River,
straddling the international border separating the
Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New
York. The falls are 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest
of Buffalo, New York, 75 miles (120 km) south-
southeast of Toronto, Ontario, between the twin cities
of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.

Niagara Falls is composed of two major sections
separated by Goat Island: Horseshoe Falls, on the
Canadian side of the border and American Falls on the
United States side. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls also
is located on the American side, separated from the
main falls by Luna Island. Niagara Falls were formed
when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin
glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the
newly-formed Great Lakes carved a path through the
Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean.
While not exceptionally high, the Niagara Falls are
very wide. More than six million cubic feet (168,000
m³) of water falls over the crest line every minute in
high flow, and almost 4 million cubic feet (110,000
m³) on average. It is the most powerful waterfall in
North America.

The Niagara Falls are renowned both for their beauty
and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power.
Managing the balance between recreational, commercial,
and industrial uses has been a challenge for the
stewards of the falls since the 1800s.

Very cool POV. There is something in your HDR process that went wrong, therefore creating a lost of details in some areas. How many frames did you use? Maybe too many?

You get an award for this Thorsten! The pic JUMPS off the page! Incredible processing! Now you give me ideas to go back to my original files and try somethings again! I'm quite amazed!

Thorsten,
This looks very futuristic! I am on both sides of the fence on this.
I can see what Leica's saying but I still like it! It feels like I am looking at two separate images at times, as the orange/yellow high clouds look real and the rest look almost "cartoonish". That's not a bad thing per say....it's just different. Nice notes....
I am looking forward to seeing your answer to Leica's question as I wonder how many frames this took.
Overall, it's really nice and it is very nice.

i think this is way overprocessed. but this is purely a personal taste and i'm not a big fan of overprocessed photos.

"a lost of details" I agree and wonder how look the big size version... the colors turned into something interesting, very different from a lot of shot from this place

Thorsten, this brings me back to my school days, it is like a picture out of a history book. Absolutely wonderful depiction of the falls. I think that the effect you have created just suits the scene perfectly. Your POV gives greatness to the photo. This just makes me want to go back, and capture the falls when there is no ice and snow!
Cheers,
Dianne

Hi Thor,
I think this critque has to be divided into two parts.
First the shot itself, the capture if you will.
The point of view here and all the elements on the far shore, the mist, the obvious movement of the water itself and the cloud all make for a really great portrayal of the power of the falls. Really well seen and composed.
Then there is the post work that adds this, somewhat, other worldly feel to the whole image.
I find that it makes me think and look over and over, which is actually good; that is, finding things to see and look at each time.
Also, you've created a very distinct and definite mood with the post work.
I really can't tell if I like it better that what I imaging the original looked like or not, but I do respect and appreciate the work.
Good note as well.
Thanks for sharing and making me think.

Hallo Thorsten,
Thomas

Great HDR. Looking just like extraterestrial for me. Beautiful work. Best regards Csabi
