[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Last week I went to small vacation, and traveled to the western region of Portugal. This photo was captured in Obidos, which to me is one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal.

This photo not had any kind of PP, only the frame.

I hope you enjoy and thank you for all comments and criticism.

The castle of Óbidos is located in the town of the same name.

Example of Portuguese medieval fortress, built on a small hill, once by the sea, dominates the surrounding plains and the Arnóia River in the east. Fruit of various architectural interventions over the centuries, incorporates the entire town, which preserves its medieval character in a way that almost scenographic.

Classified as a National Monument on July 7, 2007 was elected as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal.

Hi Mario,
Good composition and representation of the architecture of the times.
Really does feel like a fortress clearly overlooks the land.
I like the off center PoV, especially in that one gets to see more of the construction without having the image so small as to lose detail.
The note says no PP and, in a way, that's too bad, this one, I think, could be much stronger with some Highlight/Shadow adjustment to mitigate the strong side/back lighting.
I did an example in WS just to see.
Still a good shot though.
TFS,
Wilt

Hello Mario,
Thanks for posting this as it brings many pleasant memories. I was in Obidos more than 15 years ago, and the print films I took are almost identical here. I do like the diagonal perspective of the textured brickwall. My compliments. Danilo

Nice composition with the off center focus of the castle. Very crisp. Maybe a polarizer could have brought out even more blue in the sky and made the photo pop. TFS. Karin

hi Mario

I like the tall structure and diminishing to the distance. As you shot against the light and the walls are in shadow, I would agree to make some level/curve/highlight/shadow adjustment to bring out more details.

Nice view of the fortress in sunny day. I like your composition using the diagonal of the fortress outline.

tfs, bill

Hi Pikas!

Hello Mário! Very impressive place, good light and exposure and good details. Maybe a little less sky would be better? Anyway, pretty good shot, thanks!

Hello Mario
There seems to be no end to this architecture,
A bit dark, but maybe that is what you liked about it, as it does look sinister the way a fortress should look, dark and menacing.
Very nice shot.

Hello Mario,
Perfect, stepped composition.
Thanks for historical information also.

the glory of the old days still stands on this castle. nice footwork although the cropping on the right is quite tight.

Hello Mario,

This is a very interesting shot.
I like your pov where you use the diminishing wall to draw the eyes into the shot.
The wall on the right shows good details with its illumination from the sun.
Whilst some of the wall is in deep shadow, some highlighting is necessary, but care needs to be taken not to lose the mystery.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

What really strikes me here Mario is the composition. The way you lead us thru the image with the angle of the wall. You did not say when this castle was first built. When ever it was, it sure is huge now. What a great place it would be to explore. Great exposure on the sky, maybe just a little highlight/ shadow work would bring out more of the foreground wall details. Well done
Warm Regards
Wanda

Ciao...molto bella

Hi Mario,

Hi Mario,

Great capture with nice sharp colours the sky looks brilliant. The textures are nice and sharp especially the stone blocks of the castle. Well done.

You did a very good promotion for Portugal and in particular this place.

What an impressive castle this is; good to hear that it is now a National Monument.
I think to really bring out the beauty you can make the castle a bit lighter. The sun is just not in the right place for you to make the best possible picture and then a bit of PP work comes in handy. Would you have chosen to make the castle lighter then you would have ended up with a very pale or even OE sky, so this was your best option.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention in the WS that I applied a bit of a perspective correction as well.

TFS

An interesting approach to the composition Mario.
I like how the top of the castle goes from upper right , then down along the bottom.
A unique shot and place. Well done.

Olá amigo Mário,

Mais um excelente trabalho.
Boa perpectiva e óptino enquadramento.
Cores equilibradas com luz adequada.
Composição e profundidade de campo fantásticas.

Bonjour Mario,

Jolie vue, un château superbement rendu et d'une taille impressionnante!!!
Joli travail

Very strong composition with your right-edge placement of the fortress here Mario. I love the details of the masonry, although I think PP would make it better.

Even the greatest photographers use PP to make their work good!

Hi Mario,
Very nice composition of this lda castle. Sharpness, brightness and contrast are perfect, but I think the towers are not really straight probably because of the POV. A few derrees of rotation may help. Overall a fine postcard! TFS.
Greetings,
Kristof

unusual perspective of the obidos castle which well represents its powerful structure and domineering role over the land . the diagnonal perspective makes it look even more impressive
perhaps it is a pity thaht the castle is in so much shadow buit i know form experience that shooting in full light is hard and it is a great picture anyway
ciao
