Hi all TL friends
This is my addition to the friday theme...'From your kitchen'

The bench in my kitchen is the base of the photo, with diffused light from the window.
I decided to try out a different filter, one I have not used before...reflection.

Thanks for looking
Kind regards
Tracey :)

After reading critiques by Kilted-Arab and Headlessguy I have redone my image, you can see this here in my WS thanks for the critiques :)

Hi Tracey,
I like it, looks like an advertisement :)
Regards, Blanka

Hi Tracey - I like this, food photography is interesting me more and more and I've found it actually very challenging and so am appreciating the genre more and more.

This is a nice shot. It is lively, vibrant and well done on trying the new filter. I think there are ideas here for anyone who is interested in food shots.

Couple of thoughts strike me - the first is I'd probably prefer a shallower angle to the shot...from this angle it almost looks as though the lemons could slide off the screen. Secondly, the reflection itself...even with the shadow/fignette effect at the bottom I wonder if the reflection is a little too bright. No idea how the filter works, but if it could be toned down a little I think that would be worth trying, maybe make it look more natural?

Anyway, I do like this image - it leaps out from the gallery and it has a lot of quality about it. Oh, maybe lie one of the slices down to add variety and lose some of the symmetry? This one is really making me think about the possibilities and again I like that.

A good crisp capture of the lemons especially against the granite of the bench - it's a good colour and texture contrast, and the lemon-flavoured border is a nice touch.

I'm personally not fussed about the reflection, it's a good effect but I don't think it fits with this one - at least in my opinion, simpler is better.

Nice capture overall!

Hi Tracey,
Neat idea for the theme, well lit and well done.
Good on you for trying something new, but some of these filters can look a little unreal.
Richard hit the nail on the head with his critique, so I have done a quick workshop for you. I think it is how he envisaged the result.
I'll explain how I did it in the WS.
Thank you for filling in for Smurfie, you did a great job.
Pete.

Nice shot Tracey.

I like the yellow against the dark granite table top.

For some reason I've been saying this a couple of time lately but I think this would benefit from a lower point of view and a more shallow depth of field to slightly blur the lemon furthest away.

Cheers,
Jens

clean shot, juicy yellow. i like the texture of both lemon and your bench...may be a lower angle is more attractive..tfs, Tracey

Hi Tracey,
I think food photos are hard to take, so I say well done here. These lemons are always so attractive.
My only thought is that they are a bit too centred. But the filter has worked well, and I do like the colour and the idea - thank Tracey
Janice

HI Tracey
Bright colorful and looking great on the dark bench.
I prefer the version after the workshop with the reflection closer to the top.
Nice addition to the theme and a fun project to try.
Dot

the yellow is very contrasting, it's eye-catcher

Hi Tracey ,

You did a very good work for the theme. Really effective idea. I like the lighting, nice composition and colors. Between the 3 images I prefer the WS image #1. Congratulation and TFS

Hello Tracey!
Perfect focus and good detail and clarity in your picture!
Beautiful colours!
Good contrast between lemon yellow and dark background!
Best regards!
Lili

Hello:

The reflection is not done right. Even with the WS. I think that the Lemons on the back should have reflections too. But the idea is good. Maybe you can try it again using an acrylic white board where a reflection can be scene. You can compare the reflection. Just a thought.

TFS

this is beautiful, Tracey :) you did well with this week theme.. unlike me just a last minute shot because i was tired and busy.. :)

excellent shot of the lemons.. really like the sharp colour lemons... well done on this one.. tfs.. have a wonderful weekend..

regards, terry

Hi Tracey,
Veri good composition,good idea,congratulation.
Best regards,

Hi Tracey,

I really like shots of food, and this is no exception. I like the bright coloring of the lemon against the marble looking effect of the bench. The reflections are the only thing that I'm a little uncertain of. I do like the idea of the reflection touching the edge of the lemon as suggested in a workshop. Lemons make great photography subjects. Good job! Lisa

Bonjour Tracey,
La luminosité des citrons rehaussée par le fond sombre, c'est magnifique.
Composition et couleurs très agréables et présentation impeccable!
Compliments!

Michel.

Hiya Tracey

finally I get to visit lol. What an excellent shot you produced here for the theme last week. I can see that a great deal of thought went into planning and shooting this image and your work has certainly paid off it is excellent. Nice sharp detail, good refelection and the reflection works very nicely. I also like the understated border frame here too. If I was to pick one very small thing I would say it maybe a tad central and that maybe a landscape of the same shot leaving space one side might give a tiny improvment but overall this is really good.

TFS regards Helen

Hi Tracey,

Yes, you are right, the WS now is perfect.

Those lemons really are fresh and bright models for a still life. The light coming from the window is perfectly balanced.
Lovely addition for the theme for which I have to thank you - it is really fun to try out different things for the Friday theme....

Stunning photo Tracey, these look so real they are popping of the screen, excellent lighting and detail, well photographed :)

Hi TRacey

Bravo! This is a superb composition. Bright, refreshing and zingy with all those lemons. THe yellow contrast so well with the black BG. Superb choice. TFS.
