| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
There is a historic old (and now dying) oak tree in Zaporozshe, perhaps 700 or 800 years old. Only one branch system (out of sight to the right in this shot) which still bears leaves. Many years ago the Cossack warriors are said to have gathered under it's boughs before heading out to battle.
It has had significance for other groups, too, and in particular for the Mennonite people who settled the area in 1789.
These two little children toddled towards the old tree and the Cossack horse as I was about to leave, having taken all the "Old Oak Tree Pictures" I had intended to. Their buddy-like posture caught my eye, as did their colorful jackets, in contrast to the gray of the setting and day. |
