[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken on the ascent from Ribbon Creek parking lot on Highway 40 to Centennial Ridge and further to Mount Allan (2819 m). It was taken at 9:15 am when the sun was just starting to peak over the ridges on the other side of the valley. One advantage for photographers at these latitudes is that this time of year the sun doesn't ever get too high above the horizon and one can sleep until 7:30 and still catch the sunrise with the camera in hand.
I really liked how the shadows of the clouds emphasized the frostbitten meadow in the foreground. In the background center, on the other side of the Kananaskis River and the parallel running Highway 40 can be seen the fishtail twin peaks of The Wedge (2665 m).

I like this, Roly - been doing a brief browse and getting depressed by a few of the shots posted, but this one has restored my faith. Lovely plays of light throughout the scene and I agree with your line "I really liked how the shadows of the clouds emphasized the frostbitten meadow in the foreground".

Don;t normally critique dog/cat shots but that's a lovely animal and he does add depth and perspective to the shot. The slope adds a nice touch and breaks up the scene very well. Lovely shot.

You seem to have a very obedient dog there Roly! What a great looking shot of him looking into the rising sun with the highlights on the slope as well. The sky behind looks rather ominous and foreboding - adds a great dimension to the shot. Great job.

Hi Roland, today my neighbour,
A fine shot against to sun light with wonderful colours and composition.Three stratification of the light make this shot great. TFS.
Cheers,

Bayram

Hi Roland,

This shot really appealed to me. It looks like the dog is really enjoying the beauty of the sunrise as much as you! I like the sunlight illuminating his fur. It's just gorgeous.

Give your dog a puppy treat for me! Lisa

Excellent control of the different lighting in this image. i like the diagonal lines in the image and the the layers they create. The placement of the dog in the frame is perfect.

Love the light and the composition. Bill

hello..

good composition...thanks for sharing...

:-)

I love the backlighting on the retriever and the contrast between foreground light and background darkness. The viewer can't but help look along the sight line of the dog to the mountains in the background.
Thanks for sharing

Verey beautiful warm light. Excellent saturation. Good composition.

Hello Roland!

Spectacular Natural light set up for a sweet shot of your loyal friend . Thanks for his cooperation to look in the right direction for the ultimate composition.
Bravo!
Robert

This shot is just amazing, I love it! You made perfect use of the light. The division of this shot into diagonal thirds and the placement of your dog in the lower-right third of the frame is aesthetic perfection; so the progression from shade to brightness and blue to gold.

Enter this one in competitions.
