This is the entrance of the "Musee International de la Croix Rouge et du Croissant Rouge", in Geneve. Everytime i see this monumet I fell something stiring inside. So i decided that i should share this feeling. I really don't know the name of this monument, since I could not find this information in locus.

The idea of a Red Cross was born in 1859, when Henry Dunant, Swiss man, came upon the scene of a bloody battle in Solferino, Italy, between the armies of imperial Austria and the Franco-Sardinian alliance. Dunat took pity of the wounded and decided to organise a group of soldries to feed and comfort those in need. When returning to Genéve, he called the creation of a society which would aid and care for those wounded in war, and pointed the way to the future Geneva Conventions.
The Red Cross was born in 1863 when five Geneva men, including Dunant, set up the International Committee for Relief to the Wounded, later to become the International Committee of the Red Cross. Its emblem was a red cross on a white background: the inverse of the Swiss flag. The following year, 12 governments adopted the first Geneva Convention; a milestone in the history of humanity, offering care for the wounded, and defining medical services as "neutral" on the battlefield.
Henry Dunat was the first man ever to win a Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, and the Red Cross won 2 other Nobel Peace Prizes, in 1917 and 1944, for it's humanitarian work in the 2 World Wars.

Fica bem,
Fernando
hi, thanx for sharing this great history, the photo looks weird seems like dead walking people. great shot!
Valeu!!!

This is a beautiful statue, or actually I mean very expressive... and you've captured it very well, Stefania. Excellent choice for B&W here. Maybe you could have blurred the background more, though. Still, nice work. TFS.
Very well presented, Stef!
I agree with Frank about the BG blurring.
