[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Before the sun sets in Keswick, those enjoying Derwentwater head off for the night leaving the lake a quiet place to be shared only with the ducks. These boats are busy during the day, being rented out to tourists.

Metering in the camera would make this look like daylight, so I underexposed by 1 stop which allowed the colors to come out a little more saturated. While I haven't modified the image that much once the image was loaded, I made lots of adjustments in while importing from the RAW file. This is the best shot I got from this lens during my year of owning it.

This image has been printed in the January 1, 2005 Amateur Photography (UK) magazine

Fantastic warm colours in this splendid scene in the Lake District !

Oh, I just love this one, the POV is perfect showing the lovely colour of the boats against the grey-blues of the water and the rosy reflections. To me the exposure is just perfect too, the colours certainly have a nice "evening" feel to them. I have visited the Lake District many times in the past and just long to return one day. One of my favourite places. Well done.

Nice shot..i love the reflextions..well done.

Dusk provided the perfect lighting. The warm tones bring the wood in those boats to life. The details in the railings is a wonderful accent as is the reflection in the water. Wonderfully composed.

Great compositon and wonderfull colors..just the way it should be !!Great job !!

Fantastic design and colors!England feeling.

Nice shot. I like how the composition leads into the right of the frame, with the open water. It seems as if the boats, although they are tied off, are more than ready to continue on another day's work! I would like to see a shot from a little later in the day, more into dusk. Thanks for a great pic!

Perfect one. All the colors and specialy the wood.
Very very well done. ***

Very beautifull image. Nice diagonal, soft reflection on the water, and a nice view on the horizon.
Maybe I would have cloned two cable away. Anyway very nice photo.

Very nice shot from an interesting angle.

Beautiful shot, most interesting about the exposure setting. Looks quite timeless this shot, like it could have been made impossibly when there was only B&W photography, has the atmosphere of an old shot, as does some other of your photo's, I have seen also in passing...

Yes a poster of this would be great, the larger size image would make it even more dramatic, and I think the cable and reflection of the cable gives it a connection to the viewer, and some meaningfulness of the shot would be lost if you cloned it out. Although I have just got finally Photoshop, I am sure I will not be cloning, just remembering to capture things with the POV and aspect I see as interesting.

Hi Dan,
you have lovely photos in your gallery, congrats!
this photo attracted me right away, as I love reflections...and I see now it was printed in a magazine. It deserves it, the quality is superb!
excellent!
